Speaking of 1984, I dialled into tracks 1 + 5 from my period Perfect Stranglers CD; I've always been smitten by this pair, each song somehow encapsulating my preconceived notion of a perfect 'Purple roll out, exemplars both, re a vaguely sensed type of relentless, snaking heaviness, perhaps first defined in 1972, exquisitely tilled by Messrs. Blackmore and Lord.

Like Fire Of Unknown Origin by BÖC, or The Wild, The Willing and The Innocent by UFO, it's not perhaps the traditional, purist classicism their repective reputations cemented years before but there's something so utterly satistfying about the whole album, a conscious register is established firmly in the territory of slam dunk.

Methinks that mix is different too...less reverb.

  6. Talking of Defenders Of The Faith, I have to say, I find the production has not aged well at all. Its certainly 'of its time' with the overtly thudding snare drum, but I find the whole album just to bass and reverb heavy.
Give me Point Of Entry's sonics over this any day of the week.
    In other news....
Rob Halford is falling over himself at Priest's side door entry to the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame!!!
What a pathetic way to induct one of the most iconic Heavy Metal bands. I really wish the band would say 'thanks, but no thanks'.
    That's better!!!!

Fully agree - I’d rather they declined getting in like that.
Also, does it mean they can or cannot get in under the traditional artists route down the line?

I am pretty happy with my 80's elektra discs. Were the remasters well done/well regarded? I haven't ever looked into it.

The 40th Anniversary remasters are LOUD so beware if you're not into low # DR masterings.

I don't know their catalog well enough in terms of which remasters are best, if I play the Crue I usually go with my original vinyl or CD of Dr. Feelgood.

new Fozzy album is out now. It's OK, same formula as Judas. My favorites so far are Nowhere to Run, Ugly on the Inside, and My Great Wall.

Too Fast For Love to Dr. Feelgood are up on amazon for CD preorder. The later albums are not so hopefully they are doing them in waves and they will be announced later.

  19. They have been acknowledged for ' musical excellence' along with Jam and Lewis (Producers, think Janet Jackson, Alexander O'Neal etc).
If you look at who has won this over the years....it makes no sense!!!!
Because this is the 3rd time they have been up for the vote...it's a easy way to get them out of the way so to speak!!!!
They won't be able to perform there either...
Why not just induct as per normal???
You are either in....or you are not???
Rename it 'Music Hall Of Fame', that way it don't matter that Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie are not Rock N Roll!!!!!!!

The Crucial Crue remasters were a disaster - every segued song pairing messed up by a 2 second gap.... Unlistenable.

In general, there's something to be said for cds without bonus tracks. Lets you play the original album without having to program it. I'm saying this, however, as I'm listening to a cd with very enjoyable bonus tracks

Spinning up disc 3 of the NWOBHM set. It's a pretty sweet box set for a compilation from that timeframe.

Listening to a bit of Thin Lizzy lately and I've gotta say the Snowy White albums are amazing. I feel they got overlooked in the big picture which is a shame.
