You’ve heard all of the songs before, but the deadpan stoner banter between songs is always different.

The unique start of “I Am A Child” on Dorothy Chandler sends chills. Proof that time doesn’t exist for Neil Young.
An interesting thing to note: Neil seems to have stopped ‘announcing’ newly found material as if it’s about to be released. If he sticks to the current backlog, all material currently listed should be releasable within the next 5 years at the current rate.
I'm a bit of an outlier as a Neil Young fan, I suppose -- in that, Neil never even crossed my radar until Freedom in 1989. (Born in 1968, so I have SOME excuse.) Heard "Rockin' In The Free World" and was hooked; was a loyal devotee through Silver & Gold, but my absolute favorite NY albums were Freedom and Sleeps With Angels. I eventually started exploring everything else, of course -- from Decade to the early solo albums and Buffalo Springfield, and I of course have the two Archive boxes. There are stretches of his career that are still unfamiliar to me (like, say, 1980-1988 and 2006-present), but I'm counting on the Archives series to help me sort those out. Which is a long way of saying that I'm highly skeptical that Archives Vol. 3 is going to stretch all the way to 1989, as rumored. That is a LOT of territory to cover (even if you leave out the Geffen years), especially considering Vol. 2 only covered four years. What is the current speculation on the scope of Vol. 3? I'd hate to have to wait X number of years more to get to the "Freedom" era, which I am very interested in. I want Times Square, I want Road Of Plenty, I want Freedom Live ... I want all that stuff. Freedom is magical to me. Sorry for rambling...
Apologies if this has been covered somewhere already—or if the general consensus is we've already got it via Vol II—but do we reckon there's any possibility Odeon/Budokan is released on vinyl at some stage? Lord, I surely would love that.
There was talk of it but he appears to have moved on from it as I haven’t heard anything about it in a year or so.
The vinyl production log jam has done for that as well as Dume and others. At this point he is faced with the choice of using his vinyl quota for those at the expense of releasing other titles in any format. If he had released them then we probably wouldn’t have got the 4 Bootleg titles in any format at all.
Any idea when this will come out? According to Amazon Germany, I should receive it tomorrow but it hasn't even shipped yet so it must be a glitch.
Yeah, me too. Very happy with the way its panned out. Bit of a shame though we don't live in a world where it isn't an either/or proposition. Odeon/Budokan on the old black disc would be sick. First world problems!!
Alas, I have NO speculation about Vol. 3 but maybe it does manage to get to the Freedom era if Neil doesn’t include “pre-existing albums” in the set. But I am curious about your opinion of Broken Arrow, the album right after Sleeps With Angels. — David
Here's a question-- that 1974 Bottom Line gig (bootlegged as Citizen Kane Blues or just 'bottom line NYC 5/16/74', I think)--- the 'official' release coming out- is it the same tape source (audience, i think?) that we all have heard on the bootleg for years? Cleaned up any? Does anyone know? if its a 'new' soundboard, it'd be a must to get, I think, but if its the same aud tape.....not sure.
I saw 2 of the 86 crazy horse garage tour concerts. One at MSG & the other at the Jersey Meadowlands Byrne arena. They were truly fantastic shows. Nash & Crosby appeared with Neil at both for mini acoustic sets in between the hard rocking Horse set. And I distinctly remember the cow palace show was broadcast on the radio. Sam Kinison was involved in that concert as the neighbor yelling to turn down the music. Something like that. It was an expletive filled rant that was uncensored. It had me cracking up. I really hope they release that show from the tour.
Agreed, I think the era is very underrated. iirc the Cow Palace show has been shown on the NYA movie theater, hope they'll release it.
It will be in the Bluray version of Archives Volume 3. There is also a live album from that tour included however it has tracks from various shows.
I thought Broken Arrow was a big letdown after Sleeps With Angels, which to me was one of his best ever. Seemed like "Horse By Numbers" to me ... although I will say that "Music Arcade" is one of my favorite Neil songs ever. Heck, one of my favorite SONGS ever.
I was also at the MSG show. Just a pup at 15, but still a great experience and one that has made me want to see Neil live every chance I can get ever since.@
