Yes, this cover art is by Charles White. Discogs lists almost a dozen, mostly for the Vanguard label. An artist that I didn’t know about until I came across the Vic Dickenson Septet albums.

Mine’s coming tomorrow! I didn’t realize this was the only stereo vinyl version until it was sold out. How does it sound?

Where is the information on Nils' personal archive of Bud Powell from?

Many years ago, a collector whose name I have forgotten, offered to give me a large archive of Bud Powell that went far beyond the 10CDs of Mythic Sound label recordings, but he never followed through. I wonder if this was the archive.

    Does anyone else know more?

Now playing Mary Halvorson - Amaryllis. First track has some echoplex effects on Halvorson's guitar that seems to pay homage to Sonny Sharrock's appearance on Miles' Yesternow.

  14. Two sources

    1 - from Discogs
"Previously unissued live performances from Nils Winther's archive of approximately 25 hours of unissued live Bud Powell."

2 - from the CD booklet:
"When I was at home I had the chance to go through some things in my collection. I probably have 20 or 25 more hours of just Bud Powell" - Nils Winther

Sound is excellent. Music and performances too.

This morning I switched cartridges from an Audio Technica VM95ML back to a NOS Pickering TL-3. It was a beautiful listening experience. :)

Ches Smith - interpret it well

    Craig Taborn piano
    Mat Maneri viola
    Bill Frisell guitar
    Ches Smith drums, vibes

some truly stunning moments of music on this new album by the Ches Smith group. Frisell and Maneri mesh really well together and create otherworldly textures behind Taborn's genius and Smith's vision.

I wonder if they were the same recordings once offered to me (but never received).

I believe (but am not certain) that the original source of those was the collection from Bud's friend Francis Paudras, from material he did not release on the Mythic Sound label.
