I got Lucky Dip tickets. If I'm lucky enough to go to the diamond pit I'll let Mick know how much we're enjoying this.
I guess, if you really think about it, saying something like “Live at the Los Angeles Forum” is just as odd, since Los Angeles is Spanish for The Angels, yet “LOS ANGELES” has become such a name in itself, like El Mocambo, that it makes sense.
The last couple of minutes of JJF are INSANE Worried About You is glorious Dance Little Sister is magnificent Hand of Fate a triumph Crazy Mama a ragged masterpiece THOSE 5 tracks alone make this an essential But then the rest of the tracks on the album are (almost) as great! WHAT A RECORD. WE had to wait decades for this. Why? It’s so damn brilliant. Can’t wait for my vinyl to arrive. The CDs are for the car and for home until that vinyl gets here!!!
Man, this release is just fantastic. I’ve streamed it three times today. My CD set is on the way. I’m considering picking up the vinyl set if the reviews here are positive. My wife is not a big Stones fan. We streamed this during dinner and she commented on how great it was.
Such a great show, but the vinyl is absurdly expensive. Ill grab one on DeepDiscount for 50 bucks or whatever at some point when it drops in price like all the others have. For now I am streaming it loudly and repeatedly.
Sounds incredible! Streaming it now, what a great surprise. Does NOT sound like a stadium, just a club. It reminds me the 2003 Olympia gig.
It’s kind of like The Los Angeles Angels baseball team, if you translate it literally it means “The The Angels Angels”. That’s an over the top comparison, but that’s the way English speakers would refer to it. It’s always been referred to as “The El Mocambo” or “The El Mo” for short.
Just for fun. 1. Leeds '71 2. L&G 3. El Mocambo 4. Brussels Affair 5. Ya-Ya's 6. Marquee 7. Love You Live 8. L.A. Forum 9. Some Girls: Live in Texas 10. Hampton
I’m originally from Toronto and I don’t really know the answer. It’s one of those names like “The Bronx” that uses an article it’s name, but for the Bronx, the name stuck after the borough was named after the Bronx River. The Danforth was named after an engineer who built the road, but that doesn’t explain the “the”…
Re: vinyl--I can confirm that I got mine today, on the day of release, and that the box looks and feels solid! Cutout on the front with the tongue logo revealing a pink sleeve inside, reminiscent of the Let It Be set from last year, it appears to be 2 double foldout sleeves. I don't have time to listen to it tonight. Gonna give it a proper listen tomorrow when I have a clear head and have finished all the BS left to do from my work week.
Thanks @John Fell . I forgot I actually have Ladies and Gentlemen on DVD but I guess I should get an audio copy for the car. I haven’t watched the DVD in many years and I need to be reminded of its greatness.
Since no one wants to review the Mocambo vinyl, how does the L&G vinyl sound? I never hear anyone talk about it
Hard to argue with that listing. I might switch Ya-Ya's and Brussels and Love You Live and LA Forum, but that is a pretty accurate assessment, IMO.
How does the cd sound? I always read complaints about Stones’ cds sounding too loud and compressed (I.e. TY box).
