It felt like Kung Fu Hustle written like Rick and Morty but taking itself so much more seriously than it needed to
Screening : An old lady left half way through.. .. I left about 10 minutes near the end .. had to go to bathroom didn’t bother going back. Sorta message movie. Aside, loved the martial arts kung fu action,,couple of funny bits. Ultimately disappointed. Budget $70 million ( I believe ) felt like 10 million.
I called it Wild Strawberries told in a style crossed with Marvel and Rick and Morty. I really enjoyed it.
The budget was $25 million and it looked like a budget many times that. They had seven effects people and they spent the entire lockdown finishing the shots.
Paid 20 bucks I’m allowed to comment. Did make some nice comments. If you got your jolly’s off to it, fine.
I was making a clarifying statement because you claimed the budget was $70 million, not critiquing your opinion. Jeez.
Everything Everywhere All At Once Has A Unique IMDB Rating Record Has become the 49th highest ranked film in the IMDB Top 250. First and so far, only film from 2022 to do so. At the time of the writing it had shot up to #9.
Now A24's highest domestic grosser. $50m+. Box Office ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ Hits All-Time A24 Record – Deadline
And a wonderful answer to all those people who claim they don't make non-franchise, non-remake, non-sequel films anymore. Seriously people, this is like no film you've ever seen before.
I have not disliked a film so much in a long, long time. While visually inventive this mess never decides what it wants to be, who the viewer should care for and exactly whos story it's telling. It's also a tonal disaster, skirting from absurdist to dramatic to comedic within beats. And worst of all, the film wraps itself in such trite platitudes that one wonders if the story was made up while they were shooting. All icing. No cake.
Pretty much a terrible film. There’s a good film in there somewhere but it’s an hour plus too long and needs to be re edited. Having said that, it’s probably the best film about an Everything Bagel ever made.
Loving the divisive discourse on the film, it's indicative that it's triggering some charged reactions in reponse, positive and negative. It's gonna be fascinating to see how it ages; these box office numbers are incredible: Pre-Wide Release Weekend 1: $501K Pre-Wide Release Weekend 2: $1.08M (+115%) Weekend 1: $6.06M (+462%) Weekend 2: $6.19M (+2.1%) Weekend 3 (Easter 4-day): $7.12M (+15%) Weekend 4: $5.43M (-12.3%) Weekend 5: $5.54M (+2.2%) Weekend 6: $3.53M (-36.3%) Weekend 7: $3.32M (-5.9%) Weekend 8: $3.14M (-5.5%) Weekend 9: $2.51M (-19.9%) Weekend 10 (Memorial 4-day): $3.19M (+27.1%) Tot Domestic thru wk 10: $57.5M
It's funny, but the negative reviews (seen above) have made me really want to see this! The things posters are saying to criticise it, actually make it more interesting!
For those still not returning to theaters, it now appears the film will hit streamers on June 7. Blu-Ray + 4K coming in July.
i feel like the "substance" of this film is intrinsically tied to its style. i'm not expecting a commentary on the human condition akin to Parasite.
i think the film juggles a lot, similar to cloud atlas but much less intelligently. the themes about generational trauma and delusions make it a very interesting watch but the film chooses to wank itself off with its style and pretend to be an action film instead of actually trying to move through its issues.
‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ Is A24’s Highest-Grossing Movie Worldwide – Deadline and, "the $25M production still has several offshore territories to debut in, i.e. all of Latin America, France, Italy, Japan to name a few."
