Hi all, Last week I posted that SNL had really declined over the years from what it once was. However, last night’s SNL was the best I’ve seen in quite a while. I was able to make it through the entire show, without falling asleep. The writing was much improved, the music wasn’t too bad, but still not my cup of tea and the departure of several cast members was sincere and heartfelt. Nice way to end the season. John
Gee and I thought last season was unfunny! Didn’t know how bad it could get This season was as bad as the show has ever been. Put it to sleep
Meh, I could level the same complaint in 1980, 1986, 1995, 2004, and probably a few more times. It's always at least somewhat come back and gave me some good laughs. Keep it going until the end of creation!
The finale reminded me clearly why both Andy and Kate have long overstayed their welcome. After the alleged goodbye from last season let’s hope they stick to it this time.
was the closing messed up for anyone else last night? came back late from the final commercial break here
She was clearly trying really hard not to be overcome with emotion. A lovely, genuine moment. I love that her final staring role in a bit was that wacky alien abduction lady! Great send off. Agree that turnover is necessary, but I like all of the exiting cast members. They’ve got some terrific newer players, though, so looking forward to seeing what they can do next season. Very good episode overall, I thought. Big improvement from last week. I really like Gomez, but that episode seemed to struggle. dan c
they need to cut Yang. i liked him the first 5-6 times he was featured but literally he plays the same character every sketch
My nieces were watching a game show called IS IT CAKE? The show literally consisted of guests trying to guess which of the objects, such as a woman's purse, was actually a professionally made cake. The show's host was Mikey Day and one of the contestants was Heidi Gardner. And given the game show's narrow premise I assumed it was an SNL skit I hadn't seen. I worried that the cakes or the guests' rationales would get . . . inappropriate for a roomful of children. Even as the show dragged on well past skit length, I sat there in a state of heightened anticipation and low-key dread. I don't remember how or when I realized this was a "real" show. Anyway, the nieces enjoyed it.
I thought I saw him for just a second or two at the final wrap of the show (where they pat each other on the back).
I dunno. Yang has considerable range. He can go from "Yes, Queen." to "YAAAAASSSSS, QUEEN!!!!" in a heartbeat.
I dunno. I still think he’s funny in the right parts, but I agree his range is pretty limited. His act might have a short shelf life, but for now it still works IMHO. Also, I don’t think there’s any going back for a non-Asian player in Asian roles, so he’s got that going for him. dan c
I've watched all of the episodes this year, and I thought last night's was one of the weakest. Beyond the emotional opening skit, there just wasn't anything funny or compelling there last night...and plenty of things that dragged on way too long for zero payoff.
Natasha Lyonne has the exact same comical skills as Elon Musk. Zero. She was a very, very weak host. I spottted Kyle Mooney in three pieces yesterday in small supporting roles. Japanese Breakfast were the most enjoyable musical guest this season.
