Excellent song. I've always believed that era of Fleetwood Mac stands equal to the more commercially successful Nicks/Buckingham era. Not saying better, but equal.

No thread on "lonely" music is complete without some Billie Holiday. Here's "Lover Man"...

I rarely listen to "lonely sounding songs", and I certainly don't purposely go looking for them. But, there's one I like because it captures the essence of loneliness so well. That song is titled Fantastic Piece Or Architecture by the rock band 'Bloodrock'. Other than to say I think it's beautiful, I'll let the song speak for itself.

This rarely heard jewel by 'The Front Lawn' titled Because She's Gone instills a lovely and beautiful mix of both loss and loneliness.

Yes, this is a ridiculously corny and trite little ditty, but I can't begin to imagine how lonely one must feel after losing a spouse. Honey by Bobby Goldsboro.

I should've thought of this one sooner. It's a great example imo.

The Moody Blues-"Gypsy"...I loved this album in the 70s (and still today) and this Justin Hayward song always gave such a vibe of loneliness..."Left without a hope of coming home..."

    Goanna - Four Weeks Gone

About a drover who has to spend weeks at a time away from home. On this occasion he returns home to find no one waiting. Has the woman died? Or has she simply left, having had enough of waiting? The song leaves the question open.
