I always appreciate it when someone tips me on to a classic, particularly in high res, that's streaming for free. Have you seen one recently? Platform doesn't matter. Tell us! There are enough pay services getting our money. Let's check out what some of the old masters have done since, let's face it, with rare exceptions, it's all been done before! Kudos.

    Psycho (1960, Hitchcock)
A Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run, and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother.
It's one of his biggest but not one of my favorite Hitchcock joints but I do admire aspects of it - the Bernard Herrmann score, Janet Leigh's clueless weariness, Tony Perkins' closet case routine in rare form, John L. Russell's camerawork and, of course Hitch's finely crafted suspense. Garnered 4 Oscar nods. I still get anxious round the shower scene (it's still a little scary :p). Very good free streamer on tubi.

Quite. My adblocker keeps out ads on some free platforms (peacocktv, Plex, tubi, YouTube) but not others (XUMO, Plutotv, Vudu). Once I see an ad I'm ghost. :p

I just mute the sound, but it sucks and I rarely tune into any of them unless that's the only place to see the movie monetarily FREE...

I can dig it but you miss some good ones sticking exclusively to the paid platforms. Lumet's The Fugitive Kind, for instance, one of my favorites, has stayed on tubi for a while but not even the Criterion Channel (the label which owns it) can keep it on steady rotation. But I guess that an example of what you meant.

fair enough...I do understand where you are coming from and like I said if that's the only place I will deal with the commercials begrudgingly...

Kanopy has tons of great classic films, as well as more recent arthouse movies. Access is via your local public library account (if your library offers it). Good image quality, commercial free.

Thanks. The New York area libraries opted out in 2019. Must have been a huge loss for Kanopy. But apparently the costs of paying for streaming were exorbitant. Hoopla has been a pretty good replacement.

The Thomas Crown Affair (1968, Norman Jewison)
A debonair, adventuresome bank executive believes he has pulled off the perfect multi-million dollar heist, only to match wits with a sexy insurance investigator who will do anything to get her man.
Been meaning to watch this original version for a while. I hear the Brosnan version is good, too. Free on YouTube.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989, Stephen Herek)
Two seemingly-dumb teens set off on a quest to prepare the ultimate historical presentation with the help of a time machine.
Never watched it. Never played it. Not sure I'll get through it. But it's a nice change from my usual serious fare. Plus, Van Halen's on the soundtrack. Free on YouTube.

The Owl and the Pussycat (1970, Herbert Ross)
A stuffy author (George Segal) enters into an explosive relationship with his neighbor (Barbra Streisand), a foul-mouthed, freewheeling prostitute.
Streisand is legit funny in this one. Segal is a great bookworm. It's based on a play, not much happens and it's a little uneven but there are some good laughs.
