Wife (who loves the Dead) does not like the "share the women" line in "Jack Straw." But both of us love the "the bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean" line in "Brown-Eyed Women." Both songs have a similar feel. Never really thought of it until you paired them.
Everyone knows most shrinkage occurs in the belly area. No, you didn't hear any carbonation, today . . .
Shoulders too, from all those downward facing dogs. Gotta keep the organism in good shape, it's the only one I've got for this incarnation.
"Raised eight boys, only I turned bad/ Didn't get the lickings that the other ones had." Mama spared the rod with one boy, and look what happened.
7/31/74 Hartford, set 2/3, this afternoon. Nice Eyes>China Doll, with all kinds of Phil weirdness in Eyes, and a nice transition, with Bobby telegraphing CD to Jerry with one chord. They should donate their ears to science. I'm enjoying breaking these long shows into sets. Each of these sets is kind of like a mini-show on its own.
Fall '91 is pretty good (I was out of the country so can only speak from the tapes) and '93 had its moments although less consistent. IMHO, Summer '91 was the last tour that I caught where it really felt like they were consistently near their peak, although the cluttered keyboards keep me from revisiting too often.
That closing jam was still taking shape in early 1980, there are a few where they just don't seem to be able to get on the same page, IIRC.
revisiting this MONSTER show today. 4 hours of music. Not including breaks. Imagine being at the venue for that long... Perfect way to spend time on a trip ! This Bird Song is truly transcendent
"Stagger Lee" is objectively in favor of shooting a man in the balls in order to apprehend a fugitive, if the cops are too scared to come arrest him themselves.
Wouldn't it be easier for us to just hurl minor insults at you for the next few hours? You know, per se?
A woman shooting a man in the balls? You're not going to catch any flak for that one, chief...Tweeter will give her a medal
