New CD player from Marantz https://www.marantz.com/en-us/product/cd-players/cd60 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbAcATh6CvA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kyLPp9VmUE
Very interesting. Does it only play USB thumb drives or does it also provide USB DAC input? Looking at the back panel and tech spec, it doesn’t appear to have USB DAC input but maybe I misread.
I just went through the owner’s manual and only see instructions for USB flash drives, not USB DAC. They did the same thing with the CD6007 so must be part of a trend to move DAC functionality to their amps.
If they put a DAC in this one, less people would buy the 30n. Just $2k more for digital inputs and streamer...
I have a Marantz disc spinner the model number is CD6005. I either want to add a DAC via the coaxial connection or upgrade to the Marantz CD60A.
I've had a few come through so far and I like them. Somewhat similar to the 30n (without the streaming and SACD portions).
Like my first cd/sacd player the Sony SCD1 I just want a self contained player with a good analog output stage, nothing else. A Marantz like the CD 60 seems like it would be perfect if it was the SACD60.
Marantz says the CD60 has upgraded HDAM circuitry, a better dac and a better headphone amp....as well as the new design/chassis.
If the CD60 was the SACD60 it might have cut into 30n sales. Maybe that's what the powers to be at Marantz were thinking.
Agreed! Marantz pulled the SA8005 and never replaced it. The Denon DCD1600NE comes close functionally, but it has a different sound signature.
Point is how much more? I can see paying a reasonable amount for adding just the SACD playback capability. I don’t need a “Swiss Army Knife” component, just a bare bones solid and capable dedicated Cd/ SACD player with good analog outs.
It’s like pulling teeth around here to get any evaluation of the differences sound quality of CD/SACD players of differing price ranges although that has been my experience. It’s the question I want the answer to the most when looking for a player.
