I can't remember the first ones I bought. I was always more of an album girl. I do remember the first ones in my collection were a gift from a friend : Rhinestone Cowboy and How Deep is Your Love.

First I remember was Incense and Peppermints by The Strawberry Alarm Clock. Oh wait...my mom bought it for me...1st I remember buying with my own money was Let it Be/You Know my Name, Look up my number by Those Bugs.

79 cents at some offbase 5&dime.

The first one bought for me was “Rhinestone Cowboy.”

 

The first single I bought was Pigtails In Paris by David Macbeth although that may have been the B-Side, Blue, Blue, Blue could have been the A-Side. Sometime around 1960 I think.

 

Nope. But I'll bet it was a Beatles record, and sometime in the early to mid 70's. Indeed, it's quite difficult for me to separate records I bought from records my brother bought back then, as we'd mostly listen to them together. But I do remember that he sent off for records from the BBC, and those are probably among the first 45's we had. These include the Dr Who theme.

 

The first 45 I remember owning was “My Toot-Toot.” I believe it was the Jean Knight version. I was 5 years old and would play it on my GE Show ‘N Tell.

 

If memory serves me well, "Superstar" by Murray Head was my first purchase.

Yardbirds - Little Games

I was 10 at the time and my only records were Beatles and Monkees lp's but no 45's. I remember I started hearing some mind bending songs in mid '66 on the radio like the Electric Prunes, Count Five, Syndicate Of Sound, 13th Floor Elevators etc but it was Little Games that totally flipped me out - I had to get it. I remember the Kings department store in Lowell, MA that I went to in early '67 after supper with my folks and looked for the Yardbirds 45. All of the current Top 30 Boston hits were in separate partitions 45's on this giant rack. I remember WBZ-AM saying earlier in the week that Games was currently at Number 30 and looked for the #30 rack and there it was. Nice start to my 45 collection

I remember 45s, but cannot remember my first one. What I do remember is going to the downtown Rexall drugstore and looking through the 45s popular at that time and buying them for 97 cents per.

 

You Can't Change That by Raydio when I was 7.

 

I loved 3 Dog Night at the time, so it might have been Celebrate.

 

Never bought a 45. By the time I had money to buy music ('72?), albums were the thing.
