Wow great memories, I can only imagine what it was like seeing those classic shows in person! My first show was Kiss Creatures Of The Night at 9 years old, and that was an eye opener. I saw Maiden for the first time on the Seventh Son tour with Guns N Roses opening and that was a stellar show.

Seventh Son didn’t do as well in North America but did really well in Quebec. I think the progressive element resonated with the metal fans in Quebec, as progressive rock always did well here. Almost all the Metal shows I went to had kids with King Crimson or Genesis shirts on.

I for one loved the Seventh Son album the moment I heard it, and felt it was a great transition coming off the Somewhere In Time album. The set list for the Seventh Son tour was also exceptional with a nice mix of new and older less heard songs.

My first Maiden (and GnR) show as well.

Spoiler alert: Eddy blows the top of his head off towards the end of the show.

Now I'm cranking Vinnie Vincent Invasion s/t. Always sublime.

It truly is, in my opinion, a prime example of that era/genre. I enjoy the second album too, but I really wish Fleischman did the vocals on that one as well.

I can't handle the vocals on VVI, kills the album dead for me. Geddy Lee on helium doing the Bruce Dickinson air raid siren, ear piercing.

I think it was meant to be over the top and definitely succeeded in this regard.

No doubt, mission accomplished there. Still unbearable to my ears.

In the late 80s, I seem to recall Axl was less than complimentary about 'Maiden. Some contemporary piece on the idiot lantern re the Donnington '88 Monsters Of Rock do saw the wee scamp interviewed before or during the said event, backstage when he castigated them, saying [with words to the effect of Harris & co being] 'something he hoped they [G'n'R] would never become.'

Brucie, ever the gent, refusing to be drawn into some petty badinage when presented with news of this disparagement, continued upon his exercise bike and dismissed the info with some remark about 'him simply having a rather good time [all the time, Marty.']

Sadly for both bands that year, Kings Of Metal was unleashed.

Funny, I just saw this t-shirt advertised on Instagram the other day. I am not sure what Coca Cola has to do with it, but....

Probably the can of coke he’s holding in the video.

I can remember video-taping that show on BBC around 1989 I’d say - ‘Horizon Heavy Metal Special’ it was called iirc, on the same night as ‘The Decline Of Western Civilisation Pt. II’ and ‘Metallica Live Hammersmith Odeon’ (1/2 hr show). Ah, the good ol’ days!

I just got around to listening to the second album, Relentless...and I have to say it's...crap.
The first album out of 10 songs 9 made my permanent metal playlist.
For Relentless I have 1, with a strong maybe for a second track (Remember Me and Anybody Out There, respectively.)

I'd call it generic, with some really awful lyrics and a by-the-numbers performance from Geoff.

It sounds great, there is one review on Discogs from someone that has both and he said he preferred the original press. I’d love to hear the 45rpm version.

I listened to the new Tesla single today, and it is killer. I feel like this band just never misses a beat.

I'm currently cranking the new Amon Amarth. They never disappoint, and I suspect this album will be no different.

On tap for later is the new H.E.A.T. album and Soulfly if I'm feeling froggy.

Interesting, we have the exact same playlist of new stuff lined up for today :righton:. I just finished the new HEAT, no surprises there it's good melodic modern hard rock, the mastering as usual on their albums is atrocious.

Nice! It's a good day for new releases, and as we head into fall, I suspect it will continue. Seems that way usually at least.

I have yet to be disappointed with H.E.A.T. so far, so I'm definitely expecting a solid album, perfect for the waning days of summer.

New Tesla track Time to Rock - there is something seriously ****ed up with this recording/mix/master. The bottom end is a complete mess of distortion.
