Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has been cutting vinyl from digital since a long, long time ago...

    Trust no one!

    Agent Mulder.

Even Kevin Gray said in an interview engineers sign a contract to not reveal sources. I wonder why that is needed?

Not taking anyway from him, he does a great job and a lot of AAA, I believe.

But it is telling about the industry that they want to hide sources as a standard practice.

Brian Cranston would be the better fit for the Bernie Grundman role. :D

Ben Mendelsohn as Shaun, Paul Giamatti as Rob, and Michael Douglas as Krieg (too old really, but he’s got the gravitas to just stand there and gawk at the unfolding car crash). Oh, and Michael ‘Crazy Eyes’ Shannon as Fremer, but that part casts itself.

As you can see, I’ve too much time on my hands, and have given this waaaaay too much thought :)

AAA would mean NO ADA-conversion in the whole chain from master tape to the cutting head. Anyone who knows how records are made/cut these days knows that this is almost never the case.

Mobile Fidelity and its parent company, Music Direct, were slow to respond to the revelation. But last week, the company began updating the sourcing information on its website and also agreed to its first interview, with The Washington Post. The company says it first used DSD, or Direct Stream Digital technology, on a 2011 reissue of Tony Bennett’s “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.”

Um wasn’t the 2008 Santana admitted to be dsd in the video?

Ha! That takes things in a totally different direction: but in a very good way.

Herzog and his hatred of the ‘banal stupidity of chickens’ (google it), can only improve the project :)

My favourite bit was when Wood ‘broke down’. Just totally bizarre.

Mine was Jim Davis panicking at a rental car spot, desperately trying to get back to headquarters to shut the whole interview down.

Well, the article likely will generate at least another 400 posts to this thread which, I reckon, should become a sticky eventually.

"The company says"... so they either have a short memory, didn't care enough to ensure what's in the video syncs with what was told to the reporter, or they're trying to minimize the length of time they've been lying for.

Two observations. First, with respect if you are buying all these records but admittedly not listening to them, do you have a firm objective basis for their sound? Second, you are a demigod, getting 300K out of a relatively later model Chevy.

Yep, and in the course of conveying that also manage (thanks to a SHMF member :targettiphat:) to oversimplify/misrepresent the analog vs digital argument.
