"Come Back" is Wylie's absolute finest moment, in my humble opinion. Really deserved Top 5, at a minimum.

 

Capital Radio loved them. That's mainly where I heard Animal Nightlife's music.

Pete had so many great singles in the 80s, but this would be in my top 2. Along with Sinful!

It has such a huge sound, kind of like the Phil Spector wall of sound.

"Absolute" is the finest piece of synth pop in the greatest year for pop - 1984.

There.....I`ve said it.

 

It is wonderful.......but not really better than the mighty The Story Of The Blues......especially in its long 12" format with the extended narrative part...

 

I'll check it. The record label picked the wrong follow up single to it and stopped the album dead in its tracks as a result. Well that's what I think anyway

Hands up anyone who still remembers the Hothouse Flowers and doesnt confuse them with Hothouse (Heather Small`s first band) ?

 

The Roy Orbison version is better........but only before Jennifer Connelly is in the promo video.

 

Regarding the Fixx - Built for the Future has a very interesting song structure.
Starts one way for a few bars and continues in a totally different way. Love it.

But how about this one:



This is where I first really fell in love with a Fixx song.
This is a good example of an extended version that becomes sooo much more with additional instrumentation.

 

Zeus B. Held doing the production duties on that Pete Wylie record Diamond Girl.
Not the greatest song, but Zeus always knew how to enhance the good parts of a tune
did it brilliantly on several occasions......especially with some lesser known bands in the 80s.

 

It's #2 for me. This is #1...

 

I think that it is a great idea for a thread And I am interested in participating in an 80s compilation thread. The same thing goes for an 12" compilation thread

We are very reserved and prudish and there were rumours that the song was rude...

 

Ah but we were a nation well oiled and ready after FGTH's "Relax"...
I can't remmber if the BBC banned "She Bop", probably not or it would've shot to #1...

 

If someone hadn’t have told me what She Bop was about, I wouldn’t know to this day.

Amazing how popular/hyped that Hothouse Flowers album was, based on a #11 hit single and a Eurovision slot. I bought it, same day as Provision by Scritti Politti, and enjoyed it more than I expected to. It was my #2 that week after Provision.

I do remember Push and Private Dancer being high-profile casualties of the Now/Hits dominance, as well as Sade. Didn't realise the Spandau comp would have been a chart-topper! OMD debuted at #4 and actually climbed to #2 so even sadder that it couldn't claim top spot. Was unusual for albums like that to go up on the 2nd or 3rd weeks (I believe it was something to do with the lack of availability of the CD format in a lot of places).
