I am now playing this CD from the DG mono era box-and guess what? Track 16-Sarasate’s “ Navarra” features Franz Konwitschny conducting Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.

Another, at least for me, interesting under the radar conductor is Victor De Sabata. Victor de Sabata - Wikipedia A nice overview of his conducting and music can you hear on this CD. I listen to Classical Music about 10% of the time and mostly with headphones. I find my AKG K340's exceptional for this event. This type of music (today) requires listening and time. Favorites -- Straus/Holst/Bartok - hope I named these correctly.
Universal Italy released this set with De Sabata's 1939-1946 Deutsche Grammophon and Decca recordings in 2017 - I didn't get it, the boxy sound kind of drowns the music. Victor De Sabata - Recordings On Deutsche Grammophon And Decca
A lot of people here like rock and jazz also, so I don't think you would have any problems on this thread....at least not any more.
There is a lot of knowledge we can share with each other on this thread, which is great as long as it's not condescending.

We are all, at various stages, learning on this tread, Static. Don't be afraid to post your feelings on music - they are just as relevant as anyone elses ! My youth was dominated by Floyd/Zeppelln/Genesis/Sabbath/Tull and I am an enormous Dylan fan. I drifted on to Classical in the mid eighties and have been 'learning' ever since !!! Learning is fun !!! There are many like me here on this thread. Hope you enjoy yourself here

Excellent performances throughout and I much under-estimated his artistry as many of his earlier recordings were licensed by some budget record labels from Columbia and as such I only gravitated toward recordings by Argerich and Brendel who appeared on much pricier European labels like DG and Philips ...

It is all good. We are all learning things here as we share information and enthusiasms. Good thread with good folks. And I think most of us who post here also are fans of other music. I know I am.
Funny, all those different backgrounds. I grew up with Classical, then 1950s Rock 'n' Roll and Rhythm & Blues, followed by Jazz and later some British Invasion, Dylan, American Rock (mostly out of California) and a few other genres, and went back to Classical in the 1970s. Jazz has always remained my main interest from the early 1960s onward, although I don't care much for later styles.
