…one of the best Rock and Roll albums of its time, IMO. Capitol really got this one right.

Really wish they'd come out with an entire granny music compilation along with the Rock and Roll, Film and Love Songs compilations.

With one track in the middle of Yoko wailing during the Get Back sessions. :D

    LOL!
I think they have a point. The tracklists of both Meet The Beatles and Second Album are actually pretty solid. The Capitol Rubber Soul is great, and of course Magical Mystery Tour is Capitol's greatest triumph. Any of those records is awesome by itself, regardless of how they came to be (butchering of the original UK/European LPs/Singles/EPs catalogue).
I will also say that one of my dad's biggest disappointments in his Beatles collecting life was finally getting the Capitol albums via import in the 70s and finding out they actually sounded like s**t!

The "ungainly, fraudulent mess" can be loved, "Because if you let it, this music, arranged in this order, from the statement of purpose at the beginning to what may be the greatest rock'n'roll record they ever made at the end, will change your life."

Of course they are awesome, they are basically like the UK Beatles albums but generally with better sound and better track listings (other than Revolver, Help and AHDN). What's not to love?

Also the Beatles albums that the largest # of people owned pre-CD.

For me, The Second Album is the best of both worlds; great originals combined with some of their most powerful cover versions. I also happen to think that the added reverb adds to the exciting atmosphere of the whole album. But in the end, just my opinion.

I agree. My dad's disappointment had little to do with the added reverb and more with what he perceived as poor overall sound quality, lack of clarity and noisier vinyl than he was used to.
Those albums were somewhat redeemed in his eyes by the Capitol Albums CD box sets. Ted Jensen really did an outstanding job mastering those.

I love the Help one, especially Bond intro and "Another HDN" - I just won't argue that it is a better track list than a pure Beatles one.

Other than Rubber Soul I'd say you're spot on. I say that even though my most constantly listened to RS variant of the last few months has been the Capitol Box Vol. 2 stereo

I agree...its been a while since reading it but as I recall, it puts the album in time period-perspective interms of The Beatles and their surrounding culture..and it does this in a very "easy-read" style so you don't get bogged down with too much "complicated" information.

I don't think they can or should be be compared; one is a categorical "Beatle album" while the other is a "movie soundtrack" featuring The Beatles.

If it ends with the harmonica (I honestly can’t remember)it’s a fold down.
