It's been pretty slow on the DVD front of late. This is all I've found in about two months, though I haven't been thrifting as much lately. Mostly stuff for my classic Hollywood and Forgotten 80's collections (there is no movie more forgotten 80's than Love at First Bite ), with a couple blu-rays to work out the home theater.
Except the Dark Crimes box which has a very high hit rate. Some of my favorite movies are in that box, a perfect cheap beginning to a noir habit. I would at the beginning avoid anything from the 30's or the TV stuff. But beyond the classics are under-watched stuff like The Sleeping Tiger.
Jazz on a Summer's Day (CD/DVD) $2 The Complete Bourne Collection (4 Blu Rays) $5 Army of Darkness $2
Funnily enough, I've just picked up extra copies of seasons 2 to 5 (ideal for travelling). Season 5 was still sealed. Marked up at 50p each, but actually 10 for £1. They are practically giving DVDs away.
Two De Niros, a Mel Gibson and a Nick Cave for £1.50. I’ve always wanted to see The Deer Hunter. Expecting The Intern to be awful as it’s a Nancy Meyers film.
Thought it was worth creating a book-based equivalent of this thread: https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/charity-thrift-shop-book-hunting.1153326/
Johnny English, 99p. Hadn't seen any of the English films until a few months ago when I away was on holiday and happened to be able to see '.... Reborn.' Watchable, so I've been looking out for the first one since then.
Nightmare on Elm Street 2 Bellevue Rendevous Corpse Bride Oldboy Face 30 Days of Night All for 8 Euro as they classed the 2-Disc with Graphic Novel 30 Days as 3 seperate items! Nice to get Bellevue as its one of my kids altime favourites and we only had an old rip.
Don't do that! It's different...but in a good way. You see Hawkeye, Hot Lips , Frank Burns , Radar and others in a totally different way.
Yes. I watched it when it originally aired on PBS. I’m a fan of most of Burns’ work, and grew up playing and loving baseball, so there was no way it was getting left at Goodwill. I’ll admit the fact that they didn’t put it in their “Boutique” section and put a $19.99 sticker on it swayed my decision a good bit.
The Avengers ~ The Ultimate Collection AU$10. Season 5 was missing but I rifled few a couple of boxes on the floor and found it.
Yes, I watched it all the way through in one go, which is very unusual for me as my attention span rarely lasts more than 40-45 minutes. Found it mostly enjoyable, although there were too many scenes set in the dark, where I was often guessing what was supposed to be happening visually. The TV series rarely has scenes in the dark, if I remember right, so visually, that was, for me, the biggest difference between the film and TV versions. Good that there wasn't a Max Klinger character. Have always found him to be the weakest and least interesting of the recurring characters in the TV show. I didn't find the American football game at the end to be very interesting, reminded me too much of 'Horse Feathers,' and I have zero interest in American football anyway.
