Personally, I love Hammill & VdGG, yet I understand when folks can't "get past" the vocal style. Really, I do.

But, as a big fan of Marquee Moon, too, I've never heard anyone dislike Tom Verlaine's vocals! But it's interesting to disagree about these quibbling little things (hence, the SHF :))

    Thank you!

I don't like his voice. Nothing to do with being objectively good or bad. It's a subjective thing.

I'm with you. Just sounds like an inconsistent whine to me.

Black Sabbath with Ozzy. Just doesn't work for me. Black Sabbath with Dio? Sold.

I guess a good example of "different strokes."
Mark is probably my favourite "voice" in music. "Warbly" ??

I soon sold them both, I got them for a £1 each off a guy on ebay , he had a whole box of records inc the box £50 records ! £50 a few years ago now, Rumours , Dark side , TheWall, Wish you were , Animals, an expensive Climax blues band record I sold for £30 , there were some real beauties ,and all in real great condition, I sold the Carpenter records which were his wife's and the Supertramp ones which I mentioned.

The biggest one I can think of for me is Pearl Jam.

I've not listened to much from their other albums, but Ten I think is good musically. However, I do not care for Eddie Vedder's voice at all.

This. I love all the other major grunge bands but Eddie Vedder ruins PJ for me.

Funny. I'll admit that Peter Hammill's vocals were long a stumbling block for me with VDGG, but over time as I've come to fully appreciate his songwriting, particularly his eloquent lyrics, I've come around to the power of his passionate performances. He's not for everybody, but he's a singular rock visionary and I'm glad that I made the effort.

Ratt. Sometimes Pearcy’s vocals are the right vibe, but mostly, I wish I were listening to someone else sing those tracks. Great grooves and musicianship.

To a lesser degree, Cinderella. It’s the kind of music I would have really liked at one time, but that voice was so grating to me, I could never listen for very long.

Lastly, The Alarm. I can’t place what it is about Mike Peter’s’ voice that keeps me from liking them. Maybe a lack of nuance? I’m not sure.
