I've heard worse ideas lately. Patton might be a good choice for Bond if the producers don't "reinvent who he is." "reinvent" is an alarm bell. It means no matter who plays the part they're going to reflect the low IQ and neurotic agenda of Babs and her passive wussy stepbrother. EON Productions should just film Anthony Horowitz's cover novels. Boyd's and Faulks' as well. This would solve all their creative struggles. Horowitz is also a successful TV producer. If they let him produce the franchise they wouldn't have to struggle with that responsibility anymore, either. They could just sit back and count the money.
Wow, you’re right (69, for a few more weeks). But the movie he made for Netflix a few years ago actually used CGI to make him look the same age as he did in the’80s!
That’s not from EON Productions. It’s probably a new audiobook or something. Absolutely won’t be a casting announcement.
I'd gladly settle for a 4k set announcement. Not holding my breath, though. This year has been a bust and they've hardly done anything to really celebrate the 60th anniversary. GoldenEye coming to the XBOX and Switch is probably the biggest news.
He would be a great choice but, if they were wise, they’d skew younger given how long it is between movies.
Agreed. Bond films are announced by Eon Productions, Bond novels are announced by Ian Fleming Publications. I really enjoyed the last Anthony Horowitz novel. His Bond trilogy is wonderful. I expect they will announce who they've contracted with to write the next cover novel or series of cover novels. So far all the authors have served the franchise well. I'm glad the books are getting it right, because the films are a lost cause.
I loved Craig as Bond but they leaned so far into the grim and dark side of things that they weren’t able to deploy his easy way with humor and charm nearly as much as they could have. Casino Royale was so good because they did allow him to do just that for most of its runtime, until the protracted final stretch descended into darker territory. I don’t anticipate that necessarily changing, I worry that Hollywood productions these days are aiming for that “Dark Knight” tone with a lot of their major action franchises, aiming for seriousness via portentousness and bleak downbeat elements, which is a shame. Humor and action have always been allies.
The world needs more Canada. If the producers want to reinvent, I say go with a Canadian Bond! Ryan Gosling can do intense and makes the ladies swoon. Ryan Reynolds if they want to go back to the lighter approach and quips of Moore and Brosnan. Mike Myers if they want to make Bond more like that Austin Powers character. Keanu Reeves arguably the biggest action star today and he has already shown he can do an English accent in Bram Stoker's Dracula. Drake if they really want to go the route that was suggested with Idris Elba. Killed it as an actor on Degrassi.
You can't be serious. These are the worst ideas I've heard since Adam West and James Brolin tested for Diamonds Are Forever. I like Ryan Gosling's work, but he's a lightweight non-Brit with a high soft voice. There's nothing intense about him. Ryan Reynolds has a bubbly personality which disqualifies him, to say nothing of all his other deficits. To suggest Mike Myers indicates you are not posting seriously. Keanu Reeves has some technical skills like hitting his mark and holding his eyeline, but that's it. He has the emotional range of an empty paper cup. Inside his head, nobody is home. His British accent in Dracula was inept, laughable and drew much mockery at the time. His only real talent is in his scowling expression. He has no other expression. James Bond is not supposed to scowl all the time. Drake would be inappropriate for reasons that are too obvious to be explained, which I explained somewhere backthread.
They lost a lot of fun. Now, I don't want "Live and Let Die" stupid, but they sucked a lot of enjoyability out of the series.
