here in america, nobody really knows who he is, and have probably no idea about ultravox. so he gets less exposure. but it makes it easier for fans to see him, if he tours. later -1
The first time I ever saw Midge Ure in the US he was opening for Howard Jones, back in the late '80s. I bought a Midge Ure ballcap at the merch tent, later went to get a beer and the girl working the stand asked, "Midge Ure, who are they?"
I recently found a CD copy of Ultravox & Midge Ure - Finest. The liner notes list each song on both discs, but some of the track titles oddly have numbers in parentheses - for instance, the first track Sleepwalk has (28) next to the title. Does anyone know what these numbers mean? They have no connection to track numbers on the discs.
update on the 'rage in eden' deluxe boxset and vinyl coming out: Ultravox "Rage in eden" Super Deluxe, 5 CD & DVD Anniversary Box Set - Release September 2022! later -1
Listening to... Weezer a bit more than my casual fan status and in hindsight I think the reasons I like both "Ha Ha Ha" and "Pinkerton", which I found around the same time has to be how the guitars, drums, bass, synths, vocals all just smash you in the face most of the time. The difference is one has better guitar noise and one has incredible synthesizer leads carrying the guitars My take away is, where can I get more of this super rough, noisy art punk/rock sound in my life
Midge Ure - Tour 2022 ---------------------- Its taken me 40+ years to finally see midge ure, and hear some ultravox tunes live. So I had tempered expectations. He was the opening for Howard Jones, which is fine. He's not that well known here, so being an opener still works on a limited setting. Also, he had one other keyboard player to support him, while he sang and played guitar for the tracks. Setlist: -------- 1 Dear God 2 I Remember (Death in the Afternoon) (Ultravox song) 3 Reap the Wild Wind (Ultravox song) 4 Fade to Grey (Visage song) 5 The Man Who Sold the World (David Bowie cover) 6 Vienna (Ultravox song) 7 The Voice (Ultravox song) 8 All Stood Still (Ultravox song) 9 Hymn (Ultravox song) 10 Dancing With Tears in My Eyes (Ultravox song) With Howard jones: 1 Band Aid - Do they know its Christmas So, we got a good sampling of songs through his career, in a tight 10 set concert. He covered Ultravox, some solo songs, and side projects, covers. All in all, a good sampling. NO it was nowhere near what an Ultravox show would have been like. But they did a good job of sampling the drum tracks, and playing the main keyboard leads. Midges VOICE was SUPERB. It has really held up, the high notes were good enough, the timbre and pitch sounded great too. Sure he's aged. But there was enough variety, and in fact, the guitar work, added a more rock like sound to all of them. In fact, Hymn was much more rock oriented. Lots of solos throughout each song. So - 2 from Vienna, 2 from Rage in Eden, 2 from Quartet, 1 from Lament 1 solo, 1 cover, 1 side project. Actually, it was cool hearing Do they know its christmas with mostly Midge singing, I actually prefer that, as I've never liked that song. I have to say, hearing Vienna live was a high point for me. Very good rendition, and faithful to the original. The only downsides was the hassle of getting a virtual ticket (without a smartphone), and getting into the venue. But I had a balcony seat, and the view was great. Very memorable night, and although it might be a long time before I see him again, I am glad I had this opportunity. Howard Jones was decent, but I've seen him a few times before. later -1
Local record store hardly has anything 'interesting' or different in the used bin, but yesterday I got lucky. Not sure I've seen this 12" single before, and it's a promo copy to boot. Store grades their used records very casually. This one was graded Good+, but I'd give it a VG+ or even a NM- Lies flat, plays great, hardly seems used at all. Not bad for $7.
Really cool you found it out in the wild. I haven't seen any Ultravox in a record store in my life... Kind of wanted to see that solo tour, but a three hour drive there and back and I really don't think I wanted to see Howard Jones for the most of that time - good setlist admittedly, it's pretty neat how the relationship with Hideo worked out to make that his most popular track with only "The Man Who Sold the World"
So the official store has a September 30 release date for the formats. Importcds.com says December 2nd. Who's right?
You're not the only one a bit confused. An unknown (unknown to me, anyway; perhaps they're better known by others here?) website called Merchbar is listing the Half-speed master 2 LP of RIE as 'in stock': Ultravox Rage In Eden 40th Anniversary Half-speed Master 2 LP Vinyl Record But if you scroll down on that listing, it says released 12/02/22, so maybe they're the ones that are confused. I'm visiting a local record store today (Fri 9/23) to see if he knows anything, but he's often the last to know Jack, so I'm predicting his answer ahead of time....
Apparently both are right. The official UK store will ship in a few days. US dealers have to take longer to have the goods shipped over for distribution. Hence the Dec 2 date from importcds.com. According to AloneWithStrangers, who should know.
