I know some of you got thousands.
Maybe I got three hundred, and counting.
How many is enough? I'm getting old, 59, and how much time do I have to listen to all my records?
Do I want to listen to all my records? There are favorites and some stuff I have only listened to once or twice.
So how many is enough? How many to satiate the need for music? When is it time to stop looking and just sit back and enjoy what you got?
Back when I had like 500 CDs, it'd take me like ten minutes to decide what to load up! I'd stand there trying to decide what to take with me to listen in the car! Started to feel dumb.
It's starting to get that way with records...

So how many do you really need? This is not a contest!

BTW, I culled my CD collection down to around 250 and am much happier.

Only you will know the answer to this. Sometimes music becomes to familiar and not a comfort. If you are comfortable with letting go just let certain ones go.

The right answer is "more than I have now."

n + 1, where n equals the number of records I currently have.

for me about 50 is all I would care to own, I much prefer CD's...but being able to occasionally play an LP is nostalgic

I got a feeling I'm going to need some kind of Random Record Choice generator...

It’s never enough. The only limitations are your space, bank account, and possibly a wife.

Enough is when I have so many I can’t get in, or out, of my domicile.

Money and space were my main factors. Before I lost my LPs in a flood in 2012, I was up to about 1,300. So I guess 1,300 was enough for me.

I concentrated on my CD collection after that.

A collection is, by definition, a bunch of stuff you really like but don’t need. It’s not rational and there probably is really no limit to how far it can go given the opportunity.

The vast majority of the vinyl recordings I purchase, are mostly recordings that never got a good digital release, where the vinyl sounds better.

Which, for the most part, is mid to late 20th century avant-garde classical. I have quite a few amazing (musically and sonically) And 70's ECM label recordings, which also sound better than their digital releases (that 70's ECM vinyl is dead quiet!). And lastly, some pretty rare prog from Italy, Germany, Spain, France.

I will continue to buy all of the above as long as I continue to find more that I don't already have.

As far as sticking any where as low as 250 of any specific media, for me, that is laughable! At the age of 65, I am in a constant state of discovering new music in the carious genres I listen to.

Upon further thought, best to use the concept of relativity.

For some, half a million isn't enough.

On the other hand, I could tell someone that I own every Kiss album and be told "You have too many albums!"
