So what was up with them releasing Unlimited Love, which I despised, and then Return of the Dream Canteen, which so far has had 2 from 2 songs I've liked?

Well I’m guessing they didn’t ask you first.

I liked Unlimited Love and this is shaping up to a great one-two punch. I'm a casual fan but both of these albums have me excited, so they're doing something right.

Maybe some people who focus on that type of thing. I don't think seemingly dumb lyrics have ever had a negative effect on the perception of their music to the general public.

LOL, you could say that about almost any RHCP song!

Here's what Anthony had to say about the song.

It's hard for me to understand why people focus that much on the lyrics when you have such talented guys playing their respective instruments.

For me, it's a package, and part of the song. Still, I don't think lyrics are necessarily the most important thing to a song (unless it's Bob Dylan or something), and middling lyrics don't particularly ruin an otherwise good song, bad/embarrassing lyrics can bring it down, though great lyrics can make it even better.

    Sometimes Anthony's lyrics are good.

    Sometimes they are bad.

Mostly, they come from the heart.

    This is most important.

He is not trying to be Leonard Cohen.

    Agreed.
Being genuine is the ultimate goal.
Though, again, Dylan, considered one of the best lyricists of all time, isn't even close to being the most genuine - though he can sound like it.

John's guitar is going off again like a cat stuck inside a washing machine.

That's what I like to hear.

The guitar outro on this song is wicked! Frusciante is on fire!

Trying to hold out for the arrival of the vinyl release so this whole thing is fresh!

Glad to hear the first two songs are getting positive reviews and the vibe is live.

Yeah, this is pretty good. Flea's bass and Frusciante's solos are excellent.

Frusciante did say a few months ago that he thought the best songs they recorded in the sessions were on their next album...looks like he might have been right.

I think his comment was that some of the best stuff would be on this one. Not all the best ones. Another way of saying they didn’t put all the best ones on the last one.
