Wonderful interview from the UK Guardian: ‘I was losing words. I didn’t remember the week before’: Beth Orton on chronic illness, MeToo and motherhood
After hearing her sing "Courtyard" on the Mercury Rev tribute to Bobbie Gentry, and on a recording of a show she did with them later that year (2019), I was worried that she had lost her voice. One of my favorite voices. But, she seems to be better again on the new single. I'm feeling hopeful, looking forward to hearing the new album, now. There seems to be a lot of lead time on the promotional press. Still more than 3 months out, with a whole summer between now and release date. I hope there's still some attention left for her in September.
According to Keith Hagan there won't be signed CDs available through the website but, ".... Beth is selling signed posters during the Alanis run and I’m sure she’ll sign CD’s during her fall UK tour."
Fwiw I'm happy with the lead time as you say. I don't know, gives it more of a chance to sink in with me, heh.
She’s pretty much a dead cert for a Banquet/Rough Trade instore/signing so I reckon there’ll be more of this sort of thing.
Going to be available in hi-res (24/96 Album Weather Alive de Beth Orton | Qobuz : téléchargez et streamez en haute qualité
A series of intimate performances (and signings):- I've booked a place at the Oxford gig on 29th September. £10.99 for a signed CD and an intimate Beth Orton performance on a tiny stage. What's not to like?
Nice article in the New York Times: How a Sooty Old Piano Helped Beth Orton Reach a New Creative Peak
She was on the radio last night on Radio 4’s Front Row, performing a couple of tracks: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001c6ng (Geographical restrictions may apply) Looking forward to seeing her tomorrow night in London.
One of my most anticipated albums this year, it's been so damned long. Once I found out that Tom Skinner and Alabaster DePlume were involved my anticipation really geared up. Should have mine tomorrow.
Having listened to the complete CD today, I'm very happy to report that each previously-unheard track is as good (or better) than the preview songs. "Haunted Satellite", "Lonely", "Arms Around A Memory" and "Unwritten" are to die for and I can't even make out the majority of the lyrics...!! This record is so good.
Post-match report, please. I have a ticket for her appearance at Truck Record Store in Oxford next week.
