Not a huge fan of Christmas or Christmas specials (other than the classics), but I watched GOTG Christmas Special last night and found it VERY entertaining. Some good original songs, too, courtesy of the Old 97's.
I saw it last night also. Very borderline entertaining for me but my teenage kids thought it was great, so I'm sure we'll watch it a few more times. It did remind us that we want to watch (rewatch for me) Footloose.
I watched it and was a bit disappointed. Not bad, but not as funny as I thought it would be. Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high because I’m such a fan of the GOTG films.
The one thing I picked up on was that there was less Groot and RR probably because of the animation budget. There were some shots of Groot where I thought it might have been a practical costume, not digital.
I was just reading a bit about this and GotG3. Haven't seen it, as I canceled my Disney service. James Gunn on Writing Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special in Hours – The Hollywood Reporter
Groot out here lookin' like a ninja turtle. This was a lot of fun! Very silly, definitely goofier than the Guardians films, but a cute little interlude in the series. Got me hyped for a GotG3, which is mostly the point, I assume. Still not sure what "you definitely need to watch" lore Gunn was referring to in a few places; there's one character revelation but that's about it.
It very easily could have been as bad as that, and the thought crossed my mind before I saw it that it might go that way. Thankfully, I think this will age well and not ironically so.
It’s a lot of fun. Mantis and Drax are heavily featured, and it pays off! Also, The Old 97’s are a great addition!
I liked it a lot. Two things kept me from *really* liking it. The BH/Bel-Air cops shooting Drax was very tone-deaf for the current environment, for one. Also, the MCU is not our world. These folks have seen superheroes since WWII, aliens, literal gods, Arc Reactors, Hydra, Thanos, the Blip, not to mention a continent-sized stone dude sticking out of the ocean. Why do people (Kevin Bacon, in this case) still get so freaked out when something unusual or otherworldly happens? None of this stuff has been happening out of sight!
I'm willing to chalk that up to "yes, that happened to everyone else, but THESE aliens are coming for ME" and such.
I thought it was ok, not nearly as good as the first two Guardians movies, but I'm still excited for the new one! It was a fun watch though. I got a couple laughs and the music is catchy.
My favorite Guardians film so far. I thought is was a tad short, but I thought they did a great job with it and it looks awesome. Kevin Bacon was perfect casting for the role of Kevin Bacon.
I searched for the title you posted and I came up with this... The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (TV Special 2022) - IMDb
My first thought is probably everybody else's: "Well, the Star Wars Holiday Special has a cult following, we should do something like that with a current property we own."/"Great idea, but we're Disney, so let's make sure to tone it down, accentuate the lameness of it like the previous example, and make sure the fanboys hate it."
Well... Star Wars Holiday Special - Wikipedia Aside from long uninterrupted segments of Wookies without subtitles, music from Jefferson Starship, Bea Arthur, and Carrie Fisher (yes really), and guest spots from Harvey Korman and Art Carney, well, I dunno. I do know George has personally vowed to destroy all original copies of the special, so there's that. The best bit of it is on Disney+ in the Classic Star Wars section (alongside the Ewoks and Droids TV shows), an animated segment starring Boba Fett, now labeled The Story of the Faithful Wookiee.
