I wouldn't be surprised if it's left over inventory. 14,000 copies is a lot for a release featuring the band's less popular releases. Rhino seems to do this though. They've recently released additional copies of The Monkess on Bluray and that came out in 2016 as part of a limited run.
I question whether it was in stock at all. I woke up around 3:30AM ET and checked what the discounted price was only to see it was not in stock. Now maybe it did sell out in thirty minutes but I'm skeptical.
I placed an order anyway and will be see what Rhino Support has to say insofar as having discount applied retroactively. No small change! Today’s email:
I also went in on Otis. I've been watching it for a year. Was hoping to get it at the Sound of Vinyl 40% sale this Black Friday, but they didn't do it. Was pleasantly surprised that Rhino did it, and then offered a coupon on top!
Yes the Otis box is a pretty good deal. I'm pretty sure it's digital mastering but it sounds good aa I've heard it before. The covers are just the cheap typical covers of the modern day. So it's nothing special in presentation but for 60 bucks it's good to have the music. I decided to buy the love forever changes anniversary edition because I missed it when it came out. I thought it was out of print. I'm not sure it was a really special deal but it was a decent enough price.
I believe at least three of the records in the Otis box are AAA, and the rest are digitally sourced. I agree about the covers – I don't mind if they're nothing special when I'm getting the whole set for so cheap. I'd be curious how you find the Forever Changes. I almost went in on it. I don't have any hardcopy of the album.
A commenter on discogs says the following: Pain In My Heart is the AAA RSD 2014 reissue Otis Blue is the AAA RSD 2015 reissue Dock Of The Bay is the AAA Chris Bellman cut from 2014 The rest were cut from hi-res digital by Ian Sefchick that were released as part of the Stax 60 reissue series
I pulled the trigger on that Ramones box set last week and got a receipt from PayPal for it but not one from Rhino. Anyone else have that happen?
Yes, me. Order over 7 days ago, label created, that's it. E-mailed to cancel, 2 days ago nothing. Never buying from them again. Terrible service.
I ordered on 12/04, on 12/05 got a ‘Your Order Shipped’ email, label created, that nonsense. It’s been that status ever since. Zero movement. 2 emails to Rhino, all I got was a reply saying ‘yeah, your order shipped’. That’s it. Agree with poster above, never again.
I ordered the Chicago Carnegie Box, it's in stock. Thought this thread was just a 12 days of Rhino. The Ramones is a pre-order. I'm bringing my Beefheart RSD Rhino back also.
I ordered the Chicago Carnegie box as well. It’s in stock today and was on 12/04 when I ordered. This was during the 12 days sale.
People are really freaking out about a great deal cause they are a bit slow in mailing? People really need to chill out.
It's more than just slow shipping. First they wait 9 days to ship, then they won't let you cancel even though it hasn't shipped. To return you have to pay return shipping plus you lose shipping you paid. After 11 days & 2 emails to cancel I finally get a 2nd shipped email that reads it's "to far along in the process to cancel" & I will receive it in 8 days.
I'm not concerned about it shipping since it's a preorder, it's more that I didn't get anything from Rhino about the purchase.
