Thanks. Yes. I saw that. I finally found this but as I am in the EU the Yahoo Japan Auction site blocks me. I'll defintely have to take a trip back to the shop and ask if they have the second volume lurking somewhere.

That one came to me decades ago as one I bought from one of the cd clubs in the US (buy 11 for a penny, etc). Oh, how that takes me back to some great days with the cd clubs

For whatever reason, I have many favorites for the Brahms symphonies. Karajan (60s), Barbirolli, Klemperer, Walter, Jochum and Sanderling/Dresden. My top pick is probably Barbirolli. The only one I have heard that I didn't like was Wand's.

I am also a fan of Monteux and Klemperer. I intend to listen to van Beinum as well to see( hear) what I think.

Now listening to Myaskovsky Symphony 3 from the Svetlanov box of Russian and Soviet Orchestral Music Anthology. This is a wonderful symphony-probably one of his best.

Now the Myaskovsky 4th Symphony. Written 1918 when he returned from WW1. Recorded live, 1964. USSR Large Symphony Orchestra. This was a great orchestra. And the sound is wonderful.
