Stoner movies: your favorites and why? I work for a cannabis magazine now and always looking for stories. I was doing a profile of Seth Rogen and started thinking about stoner movies. I hope it’s OK we can talk about them here.

Why? I have no idea as it's a pretty dumb movie. I may have been stoned. I think I liked that it wasn't a hippy movie with hippy tropes, but those are ok too. Haven't seen any others in the series.

But, if Withnail & I can be called a stoner movie then that's probably my fave. 'Cos it's fab.

P.S. I'm excluding Rock movies like Pink Floyd At Pompeii or The Wall, etc.

Don't imagine it's thought of as a stoner movie but I always liked the scene in 'Paul' where Paul the alien takes out a joint and asks his human friends if they wish to partake of it.
He warns them it's very strong grass he got from the military.
"This stuff killed Dylan, " he says.
"Dylan's not dead, " says one of the group.
    "Isn't he?" asks Paul.

I don't think the boys ever topped this one. The follow ups were okay at times but you'd probably have to be stoned to enjoy them. This one is watchable sober

I don't use any drugs or drink, and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle was still hilarious.

I've seen the others in the series, and while they're not as good as the original, they are still quite enjoyable.

The Money Tree - a small, small indie video made in the 1980s. Why? For an extremely cheaply made movie it had some wit and truth to it.
Half Baked - Dave Chapelle (amongst others) Why? Funny; apt.

How about stuff like "Fantastic Planet" or "Heavy Metal: The Movie" I remember the two spaceship pilots imbibing. Oh wait, that was other stuff. Good stoner movie, though.

I'm pretty straight edge, but Dark Star was about as dope friendly as the song it shares it's title with.

I'm not a stoner and don't like getting high. But my favorite stoner movie is The Beach Bum. Because Snoop is in it! And it's a funny and entertaining movie where there is a lot of dope smoking.

I did a search for "stoner movie". You might look beyond the typical choices. I'm thinking Harold and Maude.

I love it, and the two sequels are pretty good, as well. It's one of those "dumb" movies that is a very smart kind of dumb, and the movie knows exactly what kind of movie it is.

I like both (Fantastic Planet more so). FP even landed a Criterion edition (which is terrific - I own a copy).

As a kid, I thought it was a strange, unsettling animated film. The metaphors for colonialism and economic exploitation flew right by me. I had to re-watch Fantastic Planet as an adult to pick up on that element.

Last night I watched Kall Penn interview the president on the daily show. Crazy.
