Right. I was going to approach this from the angle that a "stoner" movie could be a movie which featured pot head/stoner types or be the type of movie that, in its day, was hyped by heads as one which must be seen in some state of bent brain. 2001 was surely that, as are the others you listed. Eraserhead was so weird I watched it repeatedly thinking it would make more sense.
“Oh, the usual: bowl, drive around, the occasional acid flashback.” – The Dude “I spent most of my time occupying various administration buildings … smoking a lot of Thai sticks … breaking into the ROTC.” – The Dude
Spinal Tap and Clockwork Orange sort of fell into that category. Ditto Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Wizard of Oz.
My joke about a “black Peugeot“ comes from one of their movies where Cheech runs a car shop and some hot girl shows up and someone says something like “does she drive a black Peugeot.?“ And Cheech goes “she has a black Peugeot?“ Maybe you have to see it but there’s a certain suggestive word play to it. It always cracks me up.
I forgot about that. Which, of course, does not diminish your joke one bit..... I feel I owe you a belated, and now enlightened....Well played Sir.
I have yet to like a Seth Rogen stoner movie. He was good in Don't Look Up, though. Get real baked and watch The Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeoisie some time. It's a journey.
I watched the first five minutes of Brazil, and did not see what the big deal was all about. I'm supposing that matters must quickly take some unexpected turns...no spoilers, but how long does it take before the plot thickens?
lol, he was in something good that I liked...oh yeah, The Disaster Artist. The only Franco/Rogen collaboration I've seen that I find watchable. A pretty good stoner movie, in fact. The fact that it didn't revolve around marijuana and getting high was a definite plus, in the case of those guys. We're The Millers is an example of a movie that does revolve around weed, and is actually pretty funny.
"The Ruling Class" w/ Peter O'Toole. Saw this in a little art theatre when it came out - totally stoned. Stayed with me forever!
John Carpenter's first movie Dark Star. Has nothing to do with people smoking weed though. It's just a goof.
