Siouxsie & the Banshees — Kaleidoscope Siouxsie and Steve Severin stayed on from the first lineup, adding Budgie on drums and John McGeogh on guitar. Game changer.
I’m not sure if Don’t Stand Me Down by Dexys counts when all of the personnel in the slimmed down band had featured, with others, on Too Rye Ay. If so, it gets my vote. If not, I’ll take One Day I’m Going To Soar. The Pogues were another band who changed membership on a regular basis. Two obvious examples are If I Should Fall From Grace with God (Cait out, Daryl in, Terry Woods adding a new dimension) and Waiting For Herb (with Spider taking over vocal duties from Shane). Both great albums, but …Herb would be my favourite.
Thanks. Not a big Doobies fan, and I'm not all that familiar with their regular catalog albums--obviously.
Gotta lead with my favorite band The Pretty Things, but I couldn't go with Wally and Jon entering the band because that was Emotions, not SF Sorrow. But for a big change in lineup with the new members providing songs and vocals, I'll go with their Swan Song debut in 1974, featuring new members Gordon John Edwards, who wrote my favorite Dream/Joey, and Jack Green (added late into the mix.)
Good one, but I would also add Purpendicular, because even though only one member was added, Morse's presence somehow made the entire band of old has-beens carry on with youthful zest they hadn't had in 20 years. And yes, I prefer Purpendicular over Burn or Come Taste the Band.
Concur with The Yes Album, Heaven and Hell, Days of Future Passed, and Number of the Beast. I will add Dream Theater's Images and Words, Rush's Fly By Night, and King Crimson's Larks Tongues in Aspic.
However, for absolute favorite album from a drastically new lineup, it has to be: Vincent (Alice Cooper) leaves the band behind and adopts a different person in every spot and even though this would become a bone of contention for many fans, Welcome to My Nightmare is better than any previous album by The Alice Cooper Band. Now starts the countdown....
Oh, and for good measure, I could say: Countdown to Ecstasy Pretzel Logic Katy Lied The Royal Scam Aja
Got to mention Suede's Coming Up again, it really did feel like they'd come up with a new 'debut' album, despite creating so much fanfare with their actual one from three years earlier...
Even though Im not a fan I agree with you on the Moodies. The rest Im not so sure. Maybe with Larks, almost a complete overhaul in musicians, feel and repertoire.
Steve Morse is a freak of nature. He's arguably the single best musician to pass through the Purple ranks. From the Dregs to the Steve Morse Band to Kansas and the Dregs again and his solo material, he demonstrates consistency and virtuosity in spades, but more importantly he conveys a tastefulness many of his brethren lack or flat-out disregard. Steve Morse is all about the music.
Yes - Drama. Bringing in The Buggles made them basically a new band and this album had a completely different style to everything that preceded it.
