I did buy the massive Miles Davis box set in the trumpet case that arrived in less than a week. I thought to myself at the time that the shipping would have cost Pop Market way more than the box.
My Bill Withers Greatest Hits (MFSL) vinyl shipped today. U never know with MOFI titles…always a gamble with Amazon whether they will get stock. Michael Jackson SACD of Thriller is a perfect example of one that I will be amazed if it ever ships.
What's not to like apart from the price....which at $75 is still cheaper than anyone else I could find.....but I'll just have to leave a pile of the same albums on the coffee table instead... I notice the latest sales promotion push by record companies is for "Virgin Vinyl" Is this marketing wankery? What is the difference between virgin and non-virgin vinyl? - is non-virgin vinyl recycled vinyl? Do record companies these days actually recycle old records to make new records?
An Another marketing ploy, like the "audiophile 180g" pressing. Actual meaning is "mastered from CD, pressed by hacks at some pressing plant, who have very little skill to press on 180g vinyl, comes in the cheapest abrasive paper inner, it's warped and sounds like ****, but we call it audiophile to sell more". Probably implies that it's not made from recycled vinyl at the pressing plant. I've seen those videos, where warped or otherwise poor pressings have the label punched out and are reprocessed.
When there was the oil crisis in the 70s record companies started using recycled vinyl, and after that recycled recycled vinyl. By the time cassettes were getting big they started pressing promos on 'virgin vinyl' and the rest of the poor schmucks had to make do with the worst possible pressings (all of which sell for silly prices on Discogs nowadays)
The best argument that I have heard that ''Virgin vinyl'' and 180g pressings may have better sound quality - and it's a big may - is that record companies will be more vigilant in the pressing of these records: better engineering, quality control etc. because buyers will expect better quality. Nothing to do with the quality or weight of the vinyl. My experience is that "virgin vinyl" and 180g pressings are no better or worse than standard pressings.

When my parents were newly married in the swinging 60s, Mum sent my Dad to buy some Virginian Ham. He mistakedly asked for some Virgin Ham....and the man in the butcher shop quickly replied "We don't see much of that these days Sir!!!"
