Joni Mitchell Shine (CD) https://www.amazon.com.au/SHINE-JONI-MITCHELL/dp/B000UR366S/ref=d_pd_sbs_sccl_1_3/ $9.99 (Temporarily out of stock) Great record, $10 well spent if you have never heard this.
Have I got this right - four sides of vinyl in this box set have no music - just etchings of Mitchell's artwork!
Yup, the music is pressed on 12 out of the 16 sides of 8 records. The flip sides of the single-sided LPs (sides D, H, L, P) reproduce Joni Mitchell's artwork. See Discogs listing here: Joni Mitchell - Love Has Many Faces (A Quartet, A Ballet, Waiting To Be Danced) I bought the 4CD book.
I don't think there's anything new on it. If you have all her stuff you could sequence it yourself but tbh there's a few things you'd probably leave off like Ray's Dad's Cadillac and Dancing Clown with Billy Idol (and Tom Petty).
My Niravan Nevermind order from that eBay seller was cancelled today despite being previously marked as shipped. Reason given: buyer asked to cancel order. What a crock. This way I can't give negative feedback.
I did own this on vinyl and found it a bit unwieldy. The binding was pretty clunky. The spine easily splits. What with the fairly ordinary looking etched sides, and re-worked orchestral versions of some songs from Travelogue rather than original songs. I ended up flipping it! But for those without originals, I guess for the right price, it's not too bad. Plus there are songs from her later CD only albums appearing on here too. So that would be the big drawcard. It's Joni!!!
Ok, now this vinyl thing is getting stupid. New item available for preorder - 30 Seconds to Mars - 10 LP box set. 10 copies of the same album!!!!!!! No, i'm not joking. 10 copies of the same album, with different artworks.
I blame Taylor Swift. She does so many multiple different covers for the same album - obviously others are jumping on it.
Hello, my name is Big Swifty and I am an addict. I own about 15 copies of The Beatles 'Revolver'. Whenever I see it in the wild, I buy it. I can't help it. I have to buy it. I have Australian, UK, US, German and New Zealand pressings. They all sound pretty much the same. I need a 12 step program.
Ornette Coleman Genesis Of Genius: The Contemporary Albums (2LP) $72 https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08Z2TG6V7/ Craft Recordings - AAA Bernie Grundman Comes in a linen box - great reviews on the packaging $114 from Amazon US
An interesting article...most of which we know already but it's a good summary with a few interesting stats... especially the one claiming that half of those buying vinyl don't even have a turntable...it's just about the eye candy and bragging rights for some! What I Learned After Collecting 300+ Vinyl Records
This is interesting, although the writer lost me after he said - "But I treat my record collecting like a serious investment. I don’t just want to get a snapshot of what my collection is worth: I want to know how my collection is trending over time." - serious investment , he's got three hundred records! You get the feeling that in a couple of years he will writing about the money to be made collecting beer bottles, mobile phones or doilies. The article perfectly sums up the new breed of record collector.
