Need opinions of the following CD. Did a search and didn't find too much on this.

Bought this on line. It is Made in West Germany. Has the US cover art. Back insert is white with black print and has 14 tracks.

It is numbered CCD 1371. How is the mastering on this? And does it suffer from "wow" (speed fluctuations) as some of the tracks do on the domestic CD?

What tracks on the domestic CD suffer from wow?

I have a Dutch pressing of this release (CDP 32 1371 2), and pretty safisfied with the mastering.

Is this really a 1983 CD?

The earliest pressings (Japan-for-U.S. or West German-for-Europe) would have been pressed between 1983 and 1985. I am not saying these pressings ran for three years. They are rare and were likely pressed for only a short period between 1983 and 1985.

It's an absolute horror, one of the worst CDs in my collection. I only keep it for the remixes that only appear on this LP & did not make it to subsequent CD versions.

Hmm... Maybe, it's difference in tastes? :)

Well, listen to the tracks from Paralell Lines on the import GH, & then listen to them on Steve's DCC CD. Ridiculous difference.

What edition do you exactly mean? Original or remastered?

No doubt that it sounds great, as well as all Steve's CD I've listened to.
But it's almost imposible to find this edition here in Russia, so I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to compare. :(

Either, but we're talking about the original here. I have no problem with the Blondie remasters. The problem is that only the original CD has the remixes that the UK LP had, or I would have upgraded it years ago.

By the way, could it be that German, Dutch and American original pressings have different masterings?

My Dutch CD has no information about mastering.

Is the Japanese mini-vinyl sleeve remaster worth buying?

Japanese mini-vinyl is terrible. Compressed and hard for this ears.

Well, as stated above. I'm referring to the original W German pressing which has a different tracklisting than the domestic and could have different mastering....

So am I. It has much different, awful, mastering. One of the lowest level CDs that I own.

I have 2 of these Brian that I keep for the best sound. The Japanese Chrysalis/Toshiba/EMI CP32-5349 1st pressing and the Canadian 1st pressing Chrysalis/Capitol F2 21337. They have different bonus tracks is why I keep both, but both sound good.

    Dave,

Would love to find either one. I went to Amazon and found a buyer with great feedback and a copy in nice shape. It turned out to be the WG Chrysalis pressing. Seller is from Australia. It has a solid gray label and all metal to spindle.

No "WOW" anywhere. The Cd is slightly low in volume, but as I turn it up it sounds better. It comes across as slightly muddy (as if it needs a tad of upper eq added), but sounds not too bad. I'd rather have it muddy than overly bright.

:agree: The lesser of two evils.

  25. What's the total timing of your CD?

48:49 (UK EMI Swindon) - with tape fluctuations
    48:55 (1st Japanese pressing) - w/o tape fluctuations
    49:17 (CCD 1371 1st WG pressing) - w/o tape fluctuations
