    Folks,

I'm looking for this one online. What info do I need in order to determine I'm getting a Diament mastering. Also, is this to be found by sellers @ amazon?
I appreciate any help. Thanks :)

If it has the spiel about revealing the limitations of the source tape......yada...yada and does NOT say remastered, you should be ok.

    Ok:)

I'll email the seller. I should probably just visit our classifieds :)

"The music on this compact disc was originally recorded on analog equipment. We have attempted to preserve, as closely as possible, the sound of the original recording. Because of it's high resolution, however, the compact disc can reveal the limitations of the source material."

Should be on the tray art IE the back of the Jewell box.

Just make sure it's on the Atlantic label. Later remasterings were on Atco then Epic.

The spine is white with black or purple lettering (mine looks purple).

The cat# is 16018-2 with Europe: 050 735 under that. As mentioned above it is on Atlantic.

    The cover looks like this:
    ac-dc-back_in_black-front.jpg or ac-dc-back_in_black-front2.jpg

Mine looks like the 2nd one but I seem to remember seeing some with AC/DC filled in.

There is a different, lousy BIB mastering with the 050 735 Catalog number, I have one made in Germany. I'm pretty sure for the most part, the majority of the early pressings out there are Barry's mastering. There are exceptions, though.

My Japan 1st pressing looks like yours. Perhaps the filled in covers are a later pressing.

:agree: I believe the early Australian pressing is different.

The 20P2 second pressing is the same as the first.

Mine's a Made in W.Germany for US. I was thinking maybe when they started making them in the US the cover changed.

Mine fits your description, except on two points; the European Cat# is: 250 735, not: 050 735. And the lettering on the spine is blue, not black or purple.

Also, it says that it is manufactured in Germany, not West Germany.

It sounds great though, so despite the above mentioned differences, I would suppose that it has the same Diament mastering.

    Oh, and BTW; the matrix# is: 2 50735 SRC-01.

Mine is also and has the filled white letters on the cover and no mention of Barry mastering in the insert.

Today I picked up the "Manufactured by Columbia House under license" version:
    Atlantic A2 16018
    Europe: 050 735
    Made in U.S.A.
filled-white letters on cover, black type on spine

    SOUNDS GREAT

I haven't looked into it enough find out if it is a modified version of Barry D's original, but there *is* another mastering of Back In Black, that is not identical, and is compressed and overall, just lousy.

This is the "dog"(as I call it) German Record Service CD that I own. It has the same catalog number as all the other original Diament Back In Black's, but this is a doozy, and may well have something in common with the ones that some members were complaining about that sounded bad. This is *not* a remastered version.

Does anyone know if this is a Diamant version:

    http://www.acdc-discography.com/d298.html

it has this on the back:
A2 16018 (bottom left hand side).
Europe: 050 735 (lower right hand side)

on the cd it has "Made in the USA by WEA Manufacturing and 1980 Leidseplein Presse B.V.

  25. That is a pressing of 'Back In Black' with the Barry Diament mastering. However, with the "A2" catalog number, it is a 'CD Club' issued copy. It should indicate it on the back insert.

You can read more information about 'Club CD' catalog numbers in this old thread.
