    Dame Gwyneth Jones was the soprano in the 9th and the singing was just fabulous. IMO, she beat out each of the soprano in both HvK 1977 and 1984 Beethoven cycles.

    HVK's '84 Beethoven had the worst sound. A friend had it.

    HvK 84 cycle was the only one of his four Beethoven cycles that was recorded in digital. The other three were all remastered from original analog recordings. HvK 84 cycle definitely is not as good as the 63 cycle.

    Yeah, Gundula Janowitz and Christa Ludwig were regular fixtures in most HvK's choral and opera recordings from the 60's through much of the 70's.
