That's a wonderful album. I wonder who did the mastering.

Yes, a great album. Maybe Kevin Gray did this one?

Just want to add a "ditto" on the "great album" comments. What a voice. Looking forward to hearing this.

If Steve or KG is mastering this bad boy, then this is a MUST buy.

    Could be interesting.

The most recent Bob Ludwig remaster isn't too bad, but he insisted on using his "noise reduction for the intros" trick, which I find quite annoying.

  10. A great selection for SACD. Analogue Productions has really promised some great titles for the waning format.

Great album, and already pretty good sounding. If it's improved upon, it will be a real go-to disc by virtually any standard.

    Um, wow. Multi-channel to boot!

I'm glad I held off on getting the regular RCA/BMG CD re-issue (the same time the Cooke Abkco SACDs were released) a few years back.

Is Analogue Productions on a roll right now, or what? :)

I hope AP has the license to do "Live at the Harlem Square Club" next. :)

Funny that they would choose a title for SACD that's already most widely available in SACD. (Isn't it?)

You're probably thinking of AIN'T THAT GOOD NEWS or KEEP MOVIN' ON, which are SACD's.

YES! 45RPM or SACD will make me happy. The currently available CD sounds very good but I'm sure Chad will make sure this one sounds Awesome. What a great album, a fine choice!

I've got the Abkco 180 gram digital lp which sounds very analog and very good! The thought of a 45rpm version mastered by Steve in all analog would be heavenly.

If this is the same album that Chad sampled a track of at "RMAF" everyone on this board should pre-order a copy. It was absolutely stunning. It came near the end of the Steve/Chad "Nat King Cole" reissues lecture and even in what was essentially a college lecture hall and after hearing other great recordings all day those in the room where left with jaws agape. There was a spontaneous outburst of applause from us at the end.

    Stunning I say :)

Question about the CD layer of this upcoming SACD. The product description is not clear. Will the CD layer contain the original 1963 stereo mix, which now contains numerous drop outs and audio flaws due to apparent wear and tear on the stereo master mixdown?

Or will it contain a new stereo mix from the three tracks by Marino? I hope so.

By the way, the 2000 "The Man Who Invented Soul" box set featured the entire Night Beat album remixed from the 3 tracks. Not a bad stereo remix, an improvement over the deteriorated stere master, but a bit bright. The version currently in print as a stand alone CD; however, is sourced from the original stereo mix.

Here's hoping Marino creates a new stereo mix for the CD layer!

It does? Not that something from the 3-track wouldn't be preferable, but I hadn't noticed.

Maybe the mix is fine, but the mastering on that box is horrible. Noise reduction, too much midrange, not enough high end, all leading to a very harsh and glaring sound.

Agreed, but the stand alone single discs currently in print such as "Harlem Club Square" are heavily compressed to try and fatten and beef up the sound.

At least the remix of Harlem Club Square on the 2000 box set isn't squashed and artificially juiced up like the later stand alone disc. The box set version actually has some dynamics.
