Anyone watching this series on the History Channel? About a family running a pawn shop in Vegas. Really funny at times, as well as vastly entertaining.

I love it, especially the unrealistic expectations of the people trying to sell their goods.

One of my favorites was the guy with a Squier Strat with Chuck Berry's autograph on the pickguard, who thought it was worth at least $3000.

I still get a kick out of the guy who brought in a fighter jet ejector seat.

    Love how they operate.

Those guys sure know hoe to have fun with that stuff people bring in.

The "old man" cracks me up.

YES! The father "old man" is what makes that show what it is. He's great!

I haven't seen PAWN STARS, but I think I'll check it out. I've become fascinated with that other cable show about people and their stuff, HOARDERS, so this might be very interesting.

There are 2 eps from 10-11 Friday night, 2 more on Saturday from 4-5 pm, and more on Sunday night, and then a marathon on Monday from 8-11 pm.

Good show, but I wish they'd do follow-ups when some of this stuff they buy actually sells.

I think it's great! I've recorded and watched every episode so far.

How about the Native American gentleman selling his Spirit Stick... "Is that a dead rabbit?"

Good show. The Old Man is cool and Chumlee and Corey are funny. Rick can be OK but sometimes comes across as arrogant, IMO.

It's a fun show... I like it. The only episode that kind of bugged me was the one where they buy a rusted out coke machine with a ton of missing parts and take it to their repair/restore guy and he pretty much gives them back a restored but different machine. Their was hardly anything original left from the one they brought in, even the door was shaped completely different. Why not just buy one of his replicas and be done with it?

It's funny how people expect retail prices when selling their crap. They also make the show's stars look like everything they buy makes them a ton of money. They should also show deals that they made that go bad.

I think they make a lot of mistakes. One big one is every time they call in an outside expert to authenticate and value an item, the expert gives a high estimate for the retail value of the item, then Rick turns to the customer and asks them what they'll sell it for. Customer says "well your expert says it's worth $3000, so I'd like $3000".

That seems like either a respectable business practice or just a necessity for the cameras. Either way, the customer almost never gets remotely close to the estimated value if they opt to sell/pawn. What amazes me is how these customers often accept the lowball value after they receive a generous professional appraisal. Why not skip the middle man and put the thing up on eBay? Well, then gain...

It is Vegas. I can think of all sorts of reasons why people might need the cash now.

Lowball? That's the difference between Cost and Retail. I've never seen Rick really lowball a customer, usually he seems rather generous.

The pawn shop is open all night as I can tell as they threaten employees that screw up that they will put them on the night shift. a lot of people must stop in there to sell something at night after getting burned at the casinos.

It is one of the better new shows on TV. I like it and know other people who watch also.

About ten years ago I had a lady bring in the newest, but opened, Britney Spears CD. I offered her $5 for it. She says "$5" like I offered her a penny for it. I asked her how much I should pay her for it and she says $13.99. I explained to her that since it was open it was used and I could only sell it for $8.99. She then said "OK, pay me $8.99 for it". I then went into how if we buy things for the same price we sell them for I don't get paid, the owner doesn't get paid, etc, etc. She then says "you don't have to explain profit motive to me". :) Oh how I miss working the floor.

Unfortunately you ain't kidding. I get weekly e-mails telling me about house clearings and estate sales and it boggles my mind all the crap people bought and saved, especially older copies of Stereophile :)

I love this show and watch them all. I agree that I would like to see follow ups to see how much the shop gets for an item, but the show isn't really about how much they make. It's about the people who come to a pawn shop and their items.

I liked the guy who brought in the "prize" of his gun collection because his wife told him he had to sell it. She had also told him he paid too much for it. When the expert was called in, he looked the gun over and explained why it was a replica. While I normally don't like to laugh at people's misfortunes, seeing him leave the shop and walk down the street swearing was pretty funny.

I felt bad for the guy but I still had to laugh when he said, "She was mad when I bought it. Boy, she's really going to be mad now." Then he proceeded to cuss and flail like he had tourette's.

Normally I don't watch reality type shows, but this one is different.
They don't mug for the camera and create drama for the sake of it, it's just a document of the day-to-day workings of a pawn shop with some side commentary tossed in.

As a junk collector, it's always cool to see what the back-story is with any given item and they do go into some depth here. If I'm flipping channels and it's on, I'll put the remote down for a spell.

If I get to Vegas again, I'd love to stop in there. I'd bet their business has never been better.
