Glenn, I liked your joke too but it honestly is not half as good as the original post and the thread title.

I wouldn't dump the fake set. It might sound better than the real one. Then suddenly the fake would be worth a mint. :D

The audio is taken from test copies of the remasters before limiting was applied.

    I kid.

Do all the legitimate sets have the FBI warning on the back of the box, next to the bar-code?

If your box arrives with a perfect lid and there is no glue on the discs, then you have a fake. ;)

In all seriousness, who said there are fakes of this set?

  16. Wow, just read this thread and looked at all the typos. Crazy stuff!

Willing to bet if the audio was extracted it would be identical and bit perfect.

For the most part they probably would be, but they may have a different offset (applied when pressing the discs) that would throw off the checksums. Rips of the discs post-Help! in my mono set (which I'm pretty sure is legitimate :)) didn't match the AccurateRip database, and I think it's due to a 25-sample offset difference.

I keep trying to go there, but I always get an error message.

Why is that...? What am I doing wrong?? Is anyone else having trouble with the address???

    HELP!!!!

You'da thought they'd go thru the trouble of setting up an actual website using that address where you could order more copies for when your present copy wears out with cue burn and junk. All of them that are out there now will only be worth hundreds of pennies in 20 years, if they survive that long. That's maybe even more than the legitimate copies.

Or CD rot will have proven to be a reality by then, and in 20 years, it won't make a bit of difference anymore.

I'm curious if the folks who made this set bothered to find a plant that could press CDs without the IFPI codes, given how little attention they paid to details in the rest of the production process.

There are usually two -- an equipment id included when preparing the glass master (visible near the matrix code on the silvered portion of the hub, often nearly illegibly small) and a stamper ID pressed into the polycarbonate during manufacturing (visible on the clear part of the hub, also still hard to see).

    That was a typo -

Try the other website that was on the box:

    www.thebeatles.cam

Be careful on Amazon too. There are plenty of fakes being sold on Amazon, and bootlegs too. The entire set of Russian 2 fers are there, along with many other's...too many to list.

Back in the 70's pirated Let It Be LPs were in many record stores, along with pirated VeeJay LP's and God only knows what else. Best bet - know what the genuine article looks like, and if you are questioning the legitimacy - send it back and demand a refund.
