Maybe they could have Alan Douglas erase the original backing tracks and bring in some anonymous studio dudes, like he did for Jimi Hendrix.

This could be potentially a GREAT RELEASE, average or crap (not to say rip-off)

    GREAT RELEASE: Super Deluxe

    - Originally intended master album with the 22 min of music re-added.
    - 3 CD + 2 DVD set. DVD1 including new 5.1 and stereo mixes. The Wall Lost Doc and Behind The Wall documentaries. DVD2 including Wall Live 1980-81 concert complete. CD3 including Wall demos, alternate take and mixes, Another Brick In The Wall single, etc. 50 Page book and all that!

Average: Deluxe 2 CD + DVD. New stereo and 5.1 mixes. The Wall Lost Doc and Behind The Wall documentaries. 28-32 Page booklet

Crap: new mixes only. Not extra music, no 5.1, no extras at all. 2 CD Crappy 10 page booklet with the same Gerald Scarfe handwritten lyrics

I heard the current solo is cobbled together from two or three earlier cuts as the one David was happy with somehow got erased. Is there more that goes on after the fade, or are you referring to something else?

The original Comfortably Numb, I mean, the master version before the famous last-minute cuts was 1 minute longer, with more guitar solo at the end. Other songs were longer too. They edited the In The Flesh intro, the Thin Ice piano intro (on the LP and CD we hear David singing immediatly after the baby), the song What Shall We Do Now, etc. 20-22 min in total were edited out :shake:

Now there's a golden chance to bring back all that music!

Yes, it has more solo after the fade, 1 minute more.

The Comfortably Numb solo was indeed a "best of" 3 guitar solos, edited by James Guthrie, who selected the best parts. ABITW II was a "best of" too, but after selectin the best parts, Dave went and played that new compiled solo in one take

Why do you people want 5.1 mixes? a 2ch soundstage is enough to realistically reproduce a band playing in front of you. I for one am ecstatic to hear about this! i've always thought the recording sounded a little muddy.

I'm not sure why they feel the need to remix it. Whats wrong with the original mix?

I'm not even certain they can improve on the original it's that good. If they do add back all the missing parts that would be

Truth is I cant but I'm not going to drop another $35 so I can find out how it sounds when I'm perfectly satisfied with the "old" and pukey mix. I'll take that money and buy me some more records :hide:

No, you will buy it, especially if this double LP (which may become a 3 or 4 record set if all the original material is reinstated) is only $35

3-channel front with a true center channel mixed in is VASTLY different than stereo. Listen to a mix demo from Tom Holman-don't know if that was ever released though. He did a level-matched demo mixed stereo vs. center channel-no contest, not even close. With the center, the vocal came...right out of the center, fancy that! With stereo, a kind of illusion or shadow of the voice would float in the middle IF you were lucky enough to sit on the center line. Otherwise, you were out of luck.

The basic difference, even on-axis, is that the stereo presentation comes out of speakers each contributing their own set of room reflections, as opposed to the center channel with 1 set of room reflections.

I'd summarize as stereo can give an illusion of centered content IF you are on-axis, whereas an actual center just sounds much closer to the real thing. You might actually prefer the illusion if that is what you are habituated to-several famous mixers including Alan Parsons are unfortunately in that camp-but that doesn't mean it's more accurate, just that you are used to it. And as a music professor I knew once said "We don't know what we like. We like what we know."

Okay but you're still talking about the front of the soundstage, 5.1 has 2 surround speakers.

My speculation is there will be a new version released to coincide with Roger's Tour. Hopefully on SACD with 5.1 and a bunch of previously cut material :D

I wasn't too excited about this when I first heard about it, but the fact that there's some extra material that could be incorporated has me cautiously optimistic. :righton:

  24. I don't know what to think of this. If they're going to do it the Genesis way I'll pass. But if the album will get the same treatment as In The Court Of The Crimson King things could get interesting. And please add that long awaited The Wall live 1980/81 to the package as well.

The released stereo mixes included substantial edits that were necessary to fit the album onto 2LPs. One song was dropped entirely. Hopefully Guthrie will be restoring the album to its full length (which would probably match pretty closely what was performed in concert).
