Man, that was the greatest deal I have ever seen for any classical CD or set, ever. :bigeek:

    So marry him.

    ;)

That's fine, but I want to be clear that there's no objective great choice here or anywhere else in the Classical catalog. I just was presenting other options. If you love De Leeuw (and run away with him and have so many kids that you have to build an addition onto the house), that's awesome. ;)

The only one who can say __________ is a bad choice for you is you.

It is distinctly maudelin and dark, darker than any other reading of these works that I have ever heard. For that reason, I am happy to have mine on the shelf. :righton:

It? If I understand you, maybe Faure's piano works would suit you. Thew Brilliant Classics set by Collard is superb. Also, I strongly suggest getting Michelangeli's Debussy on DG.

If you are referring to this CD, I have never heard it ...

But I do have the version recorded by Carmignola when he was the lead violinist with I Solisti Veneti and Claudio Scimone and that recording is one of the CD's in this 18-CD set, which is non-HIP. That was the very first purchase I made at MDT 18 months ago ...

I like the newer school of Baroque performers. People like Biondi, Podger and Carmignola who bring a refreshing dose of oomph in their performances. Before them, I often found Baroque music.

Orchestra of St. Luke is just some NYC-based chamber group. I attended one of its concerts at the 92nd Y a number of years ago when Gerard Schwartz conducted the 6 Bach Brandenburg Concertos. It is okay but do not expect real polished or virtuosic performance. It is no AAM or the English Concert for sure ...

    And twice on Sunday

. . . boring or pointless, either like acting with a thick fake accent or an impenetrable real accent. Having said that, with a nod to

as a couple of my recent favorites, I'm pretty much burned out on Vivaldi, would rather listen to Corelli or the Couperins or J.S. Bach any day of the week. There's formulaic, and then there's Vivaldi.

Vivaldi's works do get a bit monotonic. But then he was no Johann Sebastian Bach ... :righton:

    :agree:

Plus the extra works are recently discovered or rarely recorded, I forget which.

IIRC, 4 Seasons by themselves barely make 50 min.

I regularly buy R1 dvd's from them and they're okay. Like most E-tailers do check for shipping notification and don't be afraid to contact if you've not heard anything cos stuff can happen in any business.
