I have seen it for less. $1500 is the price listed at Sony's and Crutchfield's websites ...

Which no longer work, by the way.

And $500 less [in 1988 dollars] than my headphones!

I've acquired a classical collection and was listening to Arturo Demoni - Songs My Mother Taught Me and was quite impressed. I just added the LP to the Ludwig Mastered thread as it truly is a spectacular sounding LP. If you come across a copy, it's worth listening to.

  7. Re: Charles Ives - Naxos CD

    Hey Caroline.

Acutally, this CD if you look closely, was pressed in Canada.

In the good old days, I always avoided any LP's pressed in the US as they always had the worst press quality. As such, my 4000+ classical LP's are almost all European imports. These days, I have no problems with CD's pressed in the US. I think some of the CD's released by DG might have been pressed in the US.

I had a DG cd issue of Beethoven Violin Sonatas come today and it was pressed in Argentina!
The booklet was in English. Do you guys know what that's all about?

Now that is a major shocker. I have seen CD's released by DG pressed in the US or maybe Canada but have never seen any DG CD's pressed in any other countries in the western hemisphere. The quest for cost reduction knows no end but that will also compromise consumer's confidence ...

  13. I have a Sony SCD CE755, 5 disc, SACD changer. A couple of years ago the player stopped reading about 90% of the SACD/CD hybrid discs I own. :shake: The only SACDs it will play are single layer discs.

Fortunately I have a Pioneer Elite DV-46AV DVD-A/SACD player and an Oppo DV-970HD (all formats except Blu-ray) player to pick up the slack.

Indeed, I have heard about this problem with Sony SACD players from a few people.

Is it the Argerich/Kremer recording? Perhaps Martha advocated that her countrymen be put to work?

    Robin got here first

Anyway, nowadays $1500 in the crazy world of audio equipment is considered budget.

Take that as you will :)

George, Are you familiar with Gilels playing Scriabin? I am enjoying this CD very much - Piano Sonata No. 3 and Preludes Op. 74 ...

I finally got a Yamaha Reciever year before last....always wanted one and won't have anything else now!:righton:
I had JVC before....for several years all I had was JVC....Reciever/CD/Tape/VCR and TV.
All my players now are Sony SACD....CD....DVD.....Sony seems to have better quality than most(least their mid level).....AMS is nice too.
I hate Sony receivers.....they take a lot more to "crank" than my JVC or my Yamaha.

I have just under $1000 in mine so it must be junk. :sigh:
But for junk it's pretty decent stuff and sounds GREAT for my limited space! :righton:
