Notice that someone with no feedback took the bidding from 110.51 pounds to 916+ pounds and then to the high bid of 1128 pounds. Now that's enthusiasm.

3 bids by one person with no bid history, with the first one 800.00 GBP higher than the last bid plus blank labels plus a bidder with 20 auctions. I can't imagine that this is real.

The whole thing is quite remarkable.

Strange that there are no questions posted.

Having had a chance to look this over, I too, also see what appears to be the edge of a second record label under the blank white one, in at least one of the pictures; but more damning than that is the number on the cover, which has clearly been altered. The last four zeroes (reading from left to right) are pretty obviously from a different embossing stamp than the first three.

A little photo analysis shows that last digit is apparently meant to be a zero, as well... it's just less clearly defined in the original photo.) A blow-up of the serial number is attached.

    Someone's getting greedy...

  6. The first bid by that person was not 800 GBP higher than the last bid, it was over 200 GBP lower which is why he bid again, still short, and then a third time to become high bidder.

That is just a common bidding approach I have seen thousands of times on eBay and means nothing of significance. Personally, I usually bid what I am willing to pay and move on but many bidders bid in this fashion.

    I did,
I've asked to have a better, bigger picture of the labels and stampers.
I received an answer very quickly, but I'm still waiting for the picture.

The bidding is now up to GBP 2,775.00. There must be some people out there who believe this is real.

I see what you mean now. It just looked like he bid really high at first. It is odd that he hasn't ever bought anything else but he is ok bidding $1500.00 for this album.

The label pictures may help a bit, but the stamped matrices pictured seem to correspond properly with my 1st-pressing UK mono LP. I think the records themselves are probably genuine... but either the original labels have been stripped and then replaced with the white stickers, or they've been simply covered over with the white labels.

And none of that addresses the issue of the number on the cover, of course, which quite clearly appears to have been changed at some point...

(Also of note is that the seller has only been on eBay since Sept. of 2009, and this is the only one of his transactions that does not allow payment by PayPal... I think "Buyer beware" is a bit of an understatement here...)

Another red flag about this seller (warrenrichardsonjr2009), he has both bought from AND sold to another ebayer (amatti1000) with twenty-something transactions who set up an account 4 days after he did. How often does that happen?

    It should be...

  18. I don't know what PayPal does in a situation like this. If the auction closes and the payment is made by PayPal transfer, I am going to assume PayPal won't release the funds until the time period for a refund claim has passed. The fact the auction indicates PayPal is accepted can't be ammended by the language in the description in my opinion and any buyer will only pay by PayPal transfer. Why would anybody even bid on this item? It may be that none of the bidders have any intention of actually paying and can just claim it is a fake.

It would be difficult to prove the auction was fraudulent. As long as the buyer receives the item as pictured, paypal usually doesn't get involved. I have had disputes over extreme misrepresentation of condition and never got anywhere with ebay or paypal's claims department. It might be a different story with high ticket items, but someone is going to be rolling the dice big time if they go forward with this. I wouldn't be surprised if this fell into a gray area in ebay's policies.

  21. You're probably right which means nobody should roll the dice with this one. The seller may have purchased it as is, after modification, and whether or not he knows it is a fraud isn't going to be something that can be proven.

That 0 feedback bidder is a worry

  23. I don't know why. His highest bid is around $2,000 less than the current high and there are several bids above his. If he is done, there is no reason to even care about him. If someone has trusted the item is legitimate because someone with no eBay history has bid, well, my opinion is that is their fault, not his.

  24. The seller has a negative feedback from an Italian buyer from a transaction in October, 2009. Translation from Italian:

"Item never sent. No reply to my email, but pocketed my payment."

    Wonderful.
