If Tacet releases some recordings in both DVD-A and SACD surround, then how do the two different surround sounds compare?

Depends. Basicly both would have the same surround mix ("Real Surround Sound"- Instruments placed around the listener), like the two editions of the Brandenburg Concertos or the Beethoven Symphonies. But some DVD-As also have an additional alternative surround mix called "Moving Surround Sound" (Instruments moving around the listener - that's pretty advanced and controversial stuff, but can have it's own charm :D), thus using the opportunity of DVD-As for longer playing time. The 4 Seasons would be an example for that.

So it's really a matter of what is important to you. In the first case (same mix on both) I would always go for the SACD, cause you get surround and stereo hi-rez and a red-book layer to rip. The only advantage of the DVD-A would be that it might be a bit cheaper (like the Brandenburgs, cause the DVD-A only needs one disc) or for someone intersted in the surround mix who has no player capable of SACD/DVD-A playback, but still owns a surround set-up. Every DVD-A has also a Dolby Digital 5.1 layer.

In the second case (additional mix on DVD-A) it's a matter of taste. I went for the DVD-A of the 4 Seasons cause I was more curious about the Moving Surround mix than I felt I needed the stereo versions as well. But since many classical listeners consider these mixes as "going to far", they might prefer the SACD in this case as well.

I like it a lot. But being a DVD-A it's of course surround only. For stereo you would have to go for the standard CD.

Nothing. It's just an amazingly boring cover altogether. :D

I like this one and would like to own the discs for the cover alone:

I first saw this unusual CD cover a while back. I have no clue as to whether the recording itself is any good.

I may get the DVD-A for once since I will go 5.1 at some point. No little dogs are allowed to run around my music room, so there is hope. :agree:

I knew Hugh Wolff, the conductor, in college. Actually, he played piano in a cabaret revue I put together.

There are some passionate Harnoncourtophiles around here. I love his Bach, but did not care for his Beethoven. I don't know his Bruckner which is much praised.

Man, this sure is some quiet disc. You really have to crank it. But on the last 90 secs it gets loud. The dynamics freaks on this forum should love it. :D

So what's the video content? Is it a filmed concert?
