I also like the Satie works by Pascal Rogè, which came in two separate CD's since I bought them in the 90's.

Other than a day trip to Princeton Record Exchange, I won't be going anywhere. But yes, if i did go somewhere, my laptop would be coming along.

Staycation is not all bad. The body needs some rest. For me, getting up at 7am is a luxury.

AFAIK, not yet. But I like your way of thinking, and some day there, indeed, can appear his Icon set. I saved drastically when bought the Janet Baker set - it contains some music, previously issued in the Great Recordings of the Century series. As for the Elgar/Holst CD, I have it, and it's essential for both works. :righton:

Some people think these box sets were not remastered as well as the single CD's.

BTW, How does Radu Lupu stack up against those pianists whose recordings I already have?

    That box contains:

Brahms - Best I have heard
Beethoven- Among the best I have heard
Schubert - Nice, but I like Richter a lot more (but Richter didn't record all the Impromptus or D 959 and Lupu did)
Schumann - Nice, but I like Horowitz, Richter and Moravec more.

The J. Baker box has remastering credits (dated 1999 or so), at least for some CDs. These appear to be the same remasterings that were used for the Great Recordings of the Century series.

IMO, while ART remasterings are generally quite good, some of them have too dead ambience, probably due to no-noising (and I'm NOT against any forms of no-noising, considered that the technology has improved a lot, and sometimes it's needed). Or maybe these albums were recorded this way?

One album in question is the Elgar/Holst - the renditions are to die for, but I would definitely prefer more spacious sound, especially in one of the Bishop/Parker productions...

Does anybody have the initial vinyl version(s) for comparison?
