Funny you are just talking about Renè Jacobs on hamronia mundia - guess what I am listening to atm. ?

    Die Zauberflöte from 2010
Renè Jacobs conducts The RIAS Berlin Chamber Chorus / Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin.
Starts very promising (plus it is in german for my benefit)

In the same way nowadays I won't trade my original Rachmaninov recordings for anything issued by BIS on SACD. And I do have a SACD player and some interest in the media.

Yes - a selection of their best recordings from that year.

TACET! is indeed a unique label . Less is more old beats new is their credo.
    http://www.tacet.de/main/seite1.php?language=de&filename=welcome.php

Surpasses even LINN HiRes sound wise
SACD and Surround is their domain just like analog LP's in the TUBE ONLY series - pure AAA vs DDD

I don't think I have quite as many unplayed CD's, 200 is my guess.

I recently bought a good number of BIS SACD's. The SQ of most BIS redbook CD's is excellent at any rate.

Tacet CD's are indeed a bit pricier than most other CD's. I will place my first order on a few Tacet CD's around mid October ...

    Gramophone Awards

Re the Gramophone Awards, I see Friedrich Gulda's earlier set of the Beethoven sonatas (on Orfeo) won for historic archive. Some folks here have heard and love it, no? The number of Beethoven sonata sets and discs I have is already beyond absurd, no reason for me to stop now, if this is worth it . . .

    Here's a link to the award-winners: http://www.gramophone.co.uk/classical-music-news/gramophone-awards-2010-unveiled

And right before going to work some marvelous 40s Rubinstein. The Schumann is really human, sensitive, with discret portamenti in the orchestra - unresistable!

While still waiting for my Shostakovich complete string quartets to arrive, these Bartok counterparts are making a lovely substitute/addition. Now playing CD 1 of this double set for a first listen.

Exemplary playing of all-female Rubin Quartet (not to be confused with Rubio Quartet) is perfectly captured in relatively close and vibrant sound. Really cool blending of all 4 players is among the best I've heard in similar repertoire. My best recommendations! (This Brilliant Classics set can be scored for 5-8 euros incl. shipping.)

At first I considered the set by Shostakovich Quartet, which seemed to have a bit more "bite" partially due to its more close sound. But that set would cost me twice as much and there were almost no samples for any comprehensive comparisons, so in the end I went with the Fitzwilliam. Moreover, the seller made a limited offer and decreased price to $7,99. So, if it finally arrives (I really hope so, despite it's been almost a month since despatch), it would cost me $15 shipped.
