    Yes.

Yes, more poetic and pianistic than anyone else that I have heard in these works.

You can preview (and buy it) here - http://www.russiandvd.com/store/product.asp?sku=35887&genreid=

Won't eat anything that casts a shadow

Then you better be cautious 'round Lenny's matzo ball soup—might find traces of nicotine and alcohol in the mix, the broth may not be fully up to seventh-level vegan standards.

And what's worse is that you might wind up liking it . . . Gaaaaah!!! Kreplach!!!

    Do the Strandsky!

Common professional musician's term for gross errors of execution. Also cute cross-reference to Elvis' Gawdawful "Do the Clam" from the egregious "Clambake."

Don't know, though he looks like he belongs in The Left Banke.

I've got the Richter set on Musical Heritage Society LPs, they seem to have a touch more definition than the [even cloudier] RCA CD transfers. Richter's playing is absolutely out of this world, but one really wants something closer to an Annie Fischer/Glenn Gould sonic pick-up, not "Live From Grace Cathedral with the microphones about 200 feet away over in the cheap seats."

You need to find the Live at Innsbruck recordings. They capture the sound better, though I am not sure if the playing is better. That set is very hard to find, though.

I love this Mozart rendition by the great Arthur Rubinstein. It doesn't get much better than this as fr as I am concerned....

Maurizio Pollini playing Schubert sounds precious, too as well as Jascha Heifetz violin recordings for RCA.
One of three recent additions. His violin tone is unique and comes across perfectly on these Living Stereo SACD's

Gulda's WTC is actually one of the better piano versions. George, do you agree?

The Barenboim's version is worse. Only one fellow on the other forum has a good opinion on that set and I have yet to see any positive comments from any professional reviewers ...

What use has a professional review if you like or hate said album and the critic has the opposite view ? Either you like it or you don't.
    My 2 cents
In many cases me and George P have opposite opinions which is totally okay for me. I don't need someone's approval to enjoy what I like.
I have no idea what a critic has tosaay about this recording I am listening to atm. I think it's gorgeous, great, oustanding and plain lovely; kneel down and pray kind of stuff. Really true : the organ, that cello the music everyting just syncs perfectly fine. A lute is in there, too and vocals in italian.. VIVALDI I guess ! First time I hear this for sure.

    Very unusual even for me..
So who is this - check my iTunes 'Wunderhorn'
Cello Sonatas by Antonio Vivaldi payed by Roel Dieltiens and Ensemble Explorations on historic instruments, which sound beautiful on this recoring.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I've heard a lot of different versions. There is something a little reserved about Ashkenazy's approach, but the passagework is clean, the sound is excellent and the spirt of the set is reminiscent of Edwin Fischer. Odd that the technically messy and poorly recorded Fischer set is held in such high critical esteem. I've owned and played the Gould & Richter performances many times over, heard many other pianists try their hand at this music. I can't think of a piano set of the Well Tempered Klavier that I would hold in higher regard than Ashkenazy's.
