link here So, Tom Cruise is willing to do it as long as it is a smaller role. I wonder if it would be a cameo-type of role? Will he be an instructor at Top Gun since that was what was implied at the end of Top Gun or will he be Maverick who comes in as some ex-Ace to give a pep talk to the new Top Gun recruits?
Interesting. This was a top (haha) movie back in the day. Every boys dream flick, fast planes, cool pilots, all that stuff. I think there is an audience for this, but is TC as famous as he was even 5 years ago, which was a long drop from the his golden era when TG came out....? Maybe a"small" role is best, given the circumstances.
Well the special effects/ sound will be improved in a newer version. It'll need the first one's coded script.
I'll only see this movie if Tom Cruise isn't in it. Since his "anti-psychiatrist" rant on TV I won't spend any money to see his films.
Can I be the first to say, "Who cares"? It seems to me that the window of opportunity to cash in on Top Gun has long past. Mr. Cruise's star nova'd around the time of Vanilla Sky. Sorry to thread crap - I'm sure there are those who would love to see a TG2. I'm not one of them. I'm waiting for someone in Hollywood to get a new idea.
Cruise should play Les Grossman as the "producer" of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, exploring for example the position of General Electric as a defense contractor selling materiel, a bank supplying war funding, and a media outlet covering the conflicts.
Oh man...they just won't let this one die, will they? Seriously - can anything good come out of this project? I'm trying to think positive here but that 80's testosterone fueled homo eroticism over-the-top action (and I mean this in the nicest possible way) doesn't play well these days. Top Gun was completely ridiculous to its' credit. Does anyone think a movie like it could make as big of an impact today? I'm skeptical but at the same time very interested to see how it pans out.
I dunno about that - "The Expendables" was a decent hit this summer, and that's supposed to be a total 80s throwback...
I would say so. I was channel surfing last weekend, and there was a band playing before the NASCAR race, singing the Caddy Shack theme song. The singer did not really look like what I remember of Kenny Loggins, but it surely sounded like him. I suppose time marches on, but does anyone know for sure? As for a sequel to TG.....no thanks. Nothing good can come of that. Brian
Apparently there is a screenplay in the works now and Tom Cruise is willing to do it on one condition. That the jets used are real jets and not CGI jets. Also, he wants it shot like the first one. http://www.antimusic.com/news/15/July/ts24Tom_Cruise_All_For_Top_Gun_2_But_Under_One_Condition.shtml http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/jul/27/tom-cruise-ill-do-top-gun-2-if-theres-no-cgi-on-the-jets http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Why-Tom-Cruise-Wants-Make-Top-Gun-2-73427.html Just a few of the many links about this announcement.
Is this a good time to admit I've never seen the original? Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun’ Sequel Gets July 2019 Release Date
I seen the original during its theatrical release, and other then knowing it starred Tom Cruise, I really can't recall anything about it... Nothing stands out... I don't think this sequal is going to fair very well: I mean it'll be 30+ years since the original, I can't see the interest being there after that long of a time...
