    I have three.
Under My Thumb the Rolling Stones
Gone Daddy Gone the Violent Femmes
Penetration Iggy Pop The Remix from the late 90's of Raw Power. I can't hear the Xylophone as well on the original mix.

    What else?

  2. Lots of Frank Zappa songs, "Inca Roads" is a one that really stands out.

First one that came to mind. :)

  7. No, that's a marimba. (Same goes for "Under My Thumb" BTW) Very few Zappa tracks in fact feature the xylophone, which is higher pitched and not hit with soft-type (yarned) mallets.

  8. First one that came to me was Gentle Giant's "Isn't It Quiet and Cold?", which features a xylophone solo.

I believe there is xylophone on some cuts from Freak Out, like "Wowie Zowie."

not rock, but pretty much everything red norvo did from 1933-42 or so was on xylophone. he was an amazing musician.

  18. I admit I exaggerated a bit here. But are you sure you're not confounding the xylophone with the marimba? There is xylo on "Freak Out!" and on the albums from the "Uncle Meat" era... Then... ??

Is the solo in "Moonlight Feels Right"by Starbuck a marimba?

  23. For some reason, the 1979 disco song "Come To Me" by France Joli springs to mind. Is that a xylophone in the break?

Ed Mann had a xylophone in his setup (I remember him using it occasionally in the Halloween 81 MTV video) and I suspect Ruth also did. But yes, marimba was the most prominent percussion instrument in FZ's pieces.
