Not my words. :D That's the boilerplate marketing hype on the outside of the shrink wrap.

They are kind of classy, though. The cardboard wallet sleeves sit on a blue felt lining, slotted at the bottom, within this MAMMOTH flip-top box. (The lead post photo is squashed and doesn't do it justice.)

  6. Dang, I thought you were going to post that this box was on sale for a crazy-low price.:(

Great looking box and one I would like to own.

Well, amazon ships this for around $400, so I guess a good deal for a newbie. Mastering is all over the place, IIIRC.

That's from the (US) Amazon.com store. Price to US customers from Amazon UK is currently $285 shipped.

(Price on website includes 18% VAT tax which is not charged to US buyers; and the shipping is same as a single CD, less than $5. Mine shipped by UPS, delivered in two days!)

$285 is a pretty good price! I've almost pulled the trigger on the the 20 CD box that is going for big money---but this may be a better option. I have the Concepts box for the Capitol years, but from reprise I only have Greatest Hits Vol 1 & Vol. 2 & Sinatra at the Sands.

I know this collects the Reprise albums. Am i missing out on any great single a-sides or b-sides if I spring for this over the 20 Cd box?

Also, Thanks Bob for the tracklisting----are there any bonus tracks that may be unlisted (I know they did this with the Miles Davis Complete Columbia album collection---they used the replicas but there were bonus tracks you had to refer to the enclosed book for)

There are over 90 songs in The Complete Reprise Studio Recordings 20-CD box set which are missing here. I posted a list recently at the Sinatra Family Forum: Non-album Reprise tracks. The main advantage of this box set if that you get the tracks in album order, rather than chronologically, and with all of the original liner notes and artwork.

Just one: Great Songs from Great Britain includes the song "Roses of Picardy" which did not appear on the original British LP. That was probably an oversight. Universal appears to have tried to reproduce the original LPs sans some of the bonuses which were included on earlier Warner/Reprise CD issues.

Note that most of these albums are available separately in jewel cases from UMG. There are seven new albums in this limited-edition box, but I expect those will be released individually as well next year.

Thanks Bob, 90 tracks is a considerable amount---I may have to get the 20 Cd box. This does look like a nice set though for someone who grew up with these recordings and remembers the songs in their original track order.

I know She Shot Me Down was a back-to-the-drawing board remaster after the initial UMG release, but have any of these previously unissued on UMG discs been remastered for this release?

Thanks for the pics and the list of omitted tracks, Bob!

Mine hasn't come yet. Which mixes of Strangers, My Way, etc. are included?

Yes, it's the '86 overdub. They actually missed a chance here to present the true original vocal as it appeared on the '84 LP. But Sinatra was unhappy with that one, and it's never been reissued on ANY official CD.

very much a missed opportunity--I had the original vocal on a cassette back in the eighties and much prefer it to the overdub. strike one....

I agree. I have it on an unofficialy produced CD and find it's more laid-back and cool.

Exactly. He started performing the song as a kind of schtick in concert and then reproduced that on the overdub. The original is much more natural and spontaneous.
