The Beatles' Rooftop Concert - What other songs were on the setlist?

Taking this old thread a little further, look at this image:



One can clearly see there's an extra keyboard at the top left (maybe to play Old Brown Shoe?), John's lap steel guitar behind George/John's amp (For You Blue, anyone?) and a mic set up for acoustic guitar at Paul's right (Two of Us, maybe?).

Nobody ever seen a setlist of the very day, supposing such one exists?

 

Base on the number of repeats they did, I doubt any other songs were either planned or on the setlist. If there were others they wanted to do, they likely would have tried them once before doing the repeats. I would speculate the additional instruments were up there due to a combination of offering backup in case an instrument malfunctioned or them deciding to do something else spontaneously.

 

Anyone know who the other three people are sitting in front of the chimney stack next to Yoko?

 

Right beside Yoko is Maureen Starkey.

 

Blonde on the right, next to the man in the white coat is Chris O'Dell.

 

Who's holding the lyrics for John?

 

Is that Ringo's wife Maureen ("Thanks, Mo") next to Yoko and maybe Neil Aspinall on the floor in front of them?

According to Doug Sulpy's book it is Mal Evans's assistant Kevin Harrington holding the lyrics.

The songs were multiple versions of "Get Back," two versions of "I've Got A Feeling" and "Don't Let Me Down," and one version of "Dig A Pony" and "One After 909." There were also snatches of a few other songs (e.g. "Danny Boy," heard after "One After 909" on the album and film).

 

Billy Preston is there somewhere. I think it's "Don't Let Me Down" being performed, since John is singing, and Billy plays on that. He must be at Paul's right, under the corrugated roof at the bottom left corner. There's a keyboard there, I think, though you can only see the back end of it from that angle.

They jammed on "I Want You" for a couple of minutes, but did not make a serious attempt at performing it (seeing as it was incomplete at that point). They did not play any of George's songs at George's request. The only songs they played in complete form are those featured in the film and on the LP (and most/all of them were played more than once).

 

Sadly enough, it was determined in Doug Sulpys book listening to the dialog on the Nagra reels that George specifically did not want any of his songs performed live because of the poor performance of his songs prior to the rooftop gig during the Get Back sessions (read: John)

 

I love that Mal the assistant had an assistant.

And Apple lost tons of money why again?

 

that's a damn shame. Paul and George would have done a nice job on I, Me, Mine.

 

I'm sure I heard/read somewhere that Neil missed the rooftop concert due to a dentist appointment.

 

Was the Rooftop Version of "Don't Let Me Down" on the Bonus Disc on "Let It Be..Naked"?

I don't know anything about the set list, but that's an amazing pic.

 

I think that the guy in the white is Ron Kass, the U.S. head of Apple.

 

No, the man in the white coat is Ken Mansfield, US manager of Apple records.

Ken says in his book that for a while he stood a few feet from George with four lit cigarettes between his fingers so that George could reach over and warm the tips of his fingers.
Being from California, Ken was wearing an unlined white raincoat, so he was freezing.


It's great to see that picture so large.

Notice that one of the Fender PA columns is aimed towards the street, unless it just got knocked over or something.

 

It's not well known, but the Beatles performed a rooftop concert earlier in their career also.
Because it wasn't their last live concert it never got the press that their OTHER rooftop concert got I guess.
