Lovely work. I have this version. I've known Gil for a number of years.

It wouldn't do me any good, anyway. I don't own a pornograph.

I'm scavenging for remaining copies of the RCA Living Stereo SACD reissues, and have a shot at picking up Reiner/CSO in Strauss's Symphonia Domestica/Bourgeois Gentilhomme suite. Is it worth grabbing, with (I gather) von Karajan the principal competition in SD? And are the sonics comparable to the Reiner Zarathustra/Heldenleben, which I own and like a lot?

Yes, we claim him. He is Romanian. Just check out that high forehead; very Romanian.

Reiner's SD is much preferable than Karajan's sonicwise.

You should also consider Riccardo Chailly's Carmina Burana on London/Decca. I have a copy of it and the soncs are absolutely awesome.

    Now playing:
    • Schubert: Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, D. 485 - Georg Solti/Israel Philharmonic Orchestra [ReDiscovery CD-R, Digitally remastered by David Gideon -- www.rediscovery.us -- this guy knows what he is doing, phenomenal-sounding needledrops and reel-to-reel dubs, professionally-packaged and duped -- also, he does not remaster recordings already in the marketplace and reissued from master tapes]

The Reiner Sym Domestica has long been considered the best on record. I tend to agree. It is a great SACD.

George, I received my copy of the disc a few days ago and just finished playing it this evening. Perfectly beautiful, and reminiscent of the kind of old-school playing that we hear so rarely in modern recordings. A most valuable addition to my collection. Thank you for playing intermediary!
